Phone conversation repeated

Hi, my friend used her landline to call a friend and was talking for a minute, then the phone line cut off and she could her some of the conversation just repeating i.e hi, how are you, hi how are you? What does this mean please.

    There is no answer machine on the landline, could it be a fault on the line? She is paranoid someone listening in.

    There's no telephone line fault that can cause this , speech lines are real time conversation without storage or buffering unless it's Skype or voip

    Covert surveillance ( No way it would be that unless they had links to Terror or organised crime ) is too sophisticated these days to cause it

    I've had something similar. I was talking to someone and my words were being repeated back to me about 1-2 seconds after I had spoken them - a bit like those delayed tape loops that Pink Floyd used to use. It was a very hollow, metallic sort of sound. I assumed that there was some kind of device at the other end that was feeding back the signal - perhaps an external speaker. I am not very technical with this stuff, so that's a guess, but it definitely happened. It made the conversation difficult.
    If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.
