I had a contract in 2009 for Orange Broadband internet, business £10 a month. It kept on dropping out so eventually it turned out that the dongle was interfering with the anti virus software. I eventually agreed with Orange to send it back. However I'm slightly concerned that the contract was never ceased and they have started some legal proceedings.
I can't remember the exact circumstances because it was so long ago.
I left the country at the end of 2009 so I wouldn't have received any correspondence. Me leaving the country wasn't related to cancelling the year contract.

The OP can do that but has stated that the contract existed and was presumably cancelled in 2009. That's more than 6 years ago so will only appear in the CRAs if the account is still open or otherwise settled. It won't appear as a default even if it is actually a default due to the 6 years cut-off point.0 -
I think you can send a statute barred letter.2.88 kWp System, SE Facing, 30 Degree Pitch, 12 x 240W Conergy Panels, Samil Solar River Inverter, Havant, Hampshire. Installed July 2012, acquired by me on purchase of house in August 20170

Are you ever coming back to the UK to live? If not then you won't be affected by bad debts - they may get a CCJ but little impact if you are not in the UK.
Have you received letters because you still know people at your old address (just trying to work out how you found out about this). A Statute barred letter is a good way - have they started legal proceedings or sent a letter saying they intend to start.0 -

I was living with random and no letters that I knew of.0
