Throwing away no claims years (Sheilas Wheels)

My mother got her renewal through & she was going to look at the possibility of moving insurer. She hasn't lost any no claims in all the time she's been driving so would be at 20+ years.
Looking through her Sheilas Wheels paperwork renewal paperwork & there appears to be no official 'Proof of No Claims' certificate that i've had with the insurers i've been with, same for my wife, brother, sister.
Trying to find out how many she has & it seems they say they will only go to "5+ years".
So is it a case of insuring with these has thrown away 15 years? What do you enter when you use a price comparison site (or even any site direct)? Especially when there appears no official proof paperwork, just a wishy washy "5+ years" mentioned at some point in the middle somewhere.

Makes no difference. What matters is how much the actual quote is.
After 5 years any additional no claims discount is just a number on the paperwork to make you think you're getting a discount (when you're not).0 -
if leaving ask them for the full no claims she is entitled to, make take a few days but shouldnt be a problem.
Some take it to around 9 years but sometimes that can increase the premium, its mad.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Yeah i told her she should give them a call and ask themforgotmyname wrote: »if leaving ask them for the full no claims she is entitled to, make take a few days but shouldnt be a problem.

Sorry, when filling out the forms for new quotes, when you get to the question of how many years no claims do you have i've been unable to find the option for "makes no difference".Makes no difference. .0 -

You enter whatever you can prove, which sounds like 5+ at the moment0 -
For the most part it's marketing BS. Whether you have 5 years or 15 years you still have the maximum NCD, so as mentioned, makes no (or little) difference.JustAnotherSaver wrote: »Yeah i told her she should give them a call and ask them

For example you could have 25 years of NCD but if it's not protected most (not all) insurers will drop this down to 3 after a claim. There is probably no difference in premium costs whether you have 5 or 25 years NCD.0 -

No need to apologise.
As Neil has added there will be little to no difference between the reduction in premium if you have 20yrs NCD or 5. When you fill in the form just put whatever the maximum is you have proof of or that the Dropbox will accept.0 -
She has the maximum NCD her insurer will recognise. That varies by insurer. For eSure brands, including SW, that sounds like 5yrs.JustAnotherSaver wrote: »So is it a case of insuring with these has thrown away 15 years?
Then enter 5. I bet it won't make a difference to the premium if she puts 5, 6 or 20... If it's important to her, then in the future look for insurers that'll recognise more. What do you enter when you use a price comparison site (or even any site direct)?
