Windows 10 update

I am doing a scheduled Windows 10 update on my laptop and it has gone to a dark screen with a spinning white dotted circle and has been like that for well over an hour... can anyone please advise me on what to do? Thanks

Too soon to worry, may take a bit longer...

Over 3 hours now, still too soon? Thing is I need the laptop soon, is there a way to get it back without the update?

You mean the consolidated update that came out yesterday?

If so, after 3 hours I'd just switch off the laptop and reboot, disable 3rd party AV and retry the update

    Yes Debbie, that’s the update

Just rebooted and now have the same spinning dotted circle but this time it says ‘Restoring your previous version of Windows’ hopefully that will get me back on... not sure how long that takes

Edit. back now to previous version...thanks Debbie :)

    Cheers

I did mine this morning(well let it do it), took about 40 minutes I think, I went out and left it to it. Came back 45 minutes later and it was completed.

When you have some spare time, run Disk Cleanup. Type is "disk clean-up" into the Start menu - as you start typing, it should show. Right click it and then choose Run as administrator. Give it a little time to analyse the system, then tick everything and hit Ok - it may take a while to complete, so be warned.

After the cleanup has completed, restart the computer and check for updates again. Hopefully this time they will install with success.

I am beginning to hate this thing that is W10 updates, black screen with mouse pointer for 20 mins then bursts back to life.

Must admit I rarely have any problems with these both in terms of time taken or issues with installation, though i can appreciate some people can have problems on their specific hardware. The new update from yesterday installed for me happily in 90 seconds reboot to reboot.

Easy to set Windows 10 to update during the night or schedule a set time when you won't be using the PC

Always easy to blame the update, but, no one thinks it's anything to do with their particular set up.
This is why there are so many different experiences with updates. Some fast and problem free and others that take time or have problems.
You shouldn't have updates just happen anyway, set them to work when it's convenient for you.
