Back to the onions- no I don't do anything to them. I chuck them in a bag and freeze them.
I was really bad tonight. I couldn't be bothered to cook as I worked last night and had to get the kids to MiL's for a sleepover. So I didn't do tea- we had chinese instead.
Yummy though and there's loads left for tomorrow.Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -

Once your veg has dried lay it out on kitchen towel til its completely cool,I usually just leave mine laying around for a couple of hours.I have one of those coffee grinder attachments for my food processor but the little chopper things you get with the stick blender set works or just a normal blender
You can pulse it into flakes for things like onions or chillis or blend further until it reaches a powder stage..if you dry onions you can make your own onions salt by adding in a bit of salt, same for celery *sorry lil_me*,or garlic.
I dried some strawberries this summer and powdered them then used it as a sprinkle over icecreams twas rather nice!! Add fruit powders to cakes as a natural sugar free flavouring
Thanks so much D&DD. Have now ground the vegetables and am astounded how it is possible to fit a whole butternut squash, 15 radishes, 6 sitcks of celery (sorry Lil-me:o) and 3 onions into one jar! :rotfl::rotfl:
Have also done one tray of apple leathers.....Mushrooms tomorrow!
Now then - after reading all the posts about donut makers do I go and buy one tomorrow? I don't have space, I can't really afford one, DH is wringing hands in despair.................hmmmmmm:DPeople Say that life's the thing - but I prefer reading

:j Well, thanks to this thread, I have a doughnut maker from DS1 for my birthday:j . I'll be trying it out tomorrow:D
A big thank you to D&DD for starting the thread, as keeping up with reading it daily, I've been inspired to try my hand at more baking.
I've tried baking bread a few times in the last year and I do the occasional sponge cake.....BUT...This thread has inspired me so much that I've even tried my hand at quiche for the very first time. It's a good 30 years since I last made pastry (at school:eek: ). I made two quiches early on in the week and as they were so delicious, I've done another 3, along with a jam/fruit tart, today:D
Definitely thinking about growing some veg now. It'll have to be in containers, as we only have a small back yard...And there's the ferrets of course, who just love to DIG:rotfl:
Thank you all for being such an inspiration:j0 -

Hi just been veiwwing thread as i enjoy cooking and using storage cupboard items. i have a quick recipe for quiche which was given to us by a slimming club. It is pastryless and low in cals and fat. Use a pkt of bachelors pasta, I like chicken flavoured, mix with 400mls of water and cook until soft - usually about 5 mins. Using three eggs- mis with low fat cottage cheese small tub, or quark - i prefer cottage cheese. Mix this with pasta, place in quiche dish and cook at a medium temp i use electric 160 c. it is truly lovely. If you want extra flavouryou can add cheese or bacon, tomatoes etc for topping.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:0 -
hi , i'm not been on much lately. will try to get on later and have a proper read through.
I said to hubby ( he promised back in september to decorate the lounge and that it would be done beofre xmas) i thought he promised me the lounge would be done by xmas. in a bit of a tounge a cheek way. anyway he came home last night form work , took a breaker to the wall and took out the fireplace. OMG i have a huge hole in the wall , with bear brick's now. But it is a start. i've ordered everythign we need and it coming monday. Got a feeling were gonna a few later night's. tonight all the skirting is coming off , all the shelfs are coming down. all holes filled and sanded. all gonna be prepered for painting. new fire place is gonna be built. gonna put our lcd tv on the chimney breast , in ahope it will stop kids tounching it. also better when we play the wii. got doors to block up. New wood flooring to lay. SO much. 1st dec i always put the dec's up. and we are so far away from that. But it will get done. Also got a couple fo small jobs to do in kitchen. So hence why i not been on here as been running around like a mad thing.
I've been doing lots of baking tho.
I'm gonna make a lemon oat cake in a min. once i get dresssed , have breakie , get kids bathed and dressed , wade through the biggest ,mountain of luandry , strip and make bed's. tidy bedrooms and up stair.
HELP ME PLEASE. I'm drowing. lol . ( maybe i'll just go out he he)0 -
jcr16, don't want to be mean but, you asked for it
at least it's getting done
We're off out shopping for decorations and a tree today, buying a real one for the first time ever, DP has promised he'll keep where it is vacuumed (not being a mean but the thought of the mess of it puts me off!) Raided my change (PMS) pot and I have £80 bagged up to pay into the bank which should help cover it.
Going to make something nice when I get home, chocolate pudding I think, while they make a mess and argue where to put the decorations, then I will redo them when they have had their fun. I'm going for more colour and less lights (seeing as we need to keep the electricity usage down) DS2 will be dissappointed as he'd have the house lit up like Blackpool Illuminations if he could get away with it.
Oh and I've figured out the bill, well sort of, it's right anyway, unfortunately. One day I might be more organised...........

You could always get her to buy you something and give you the reciept incase it doesn't fit like a new hat, or basque or something OTT and not boring, then take it back, buy what you like with the refund
great way of getting round the relatives who insist you like what they buy you when you don't.
More I read the more this stupid gas bill is confuzzling mebah! What on earth is a Calorific Value (it's not food!) and a 'Volume Correction'? Off for a google I think. Darn call centre for them is shut so will have to figure it out myself.
Great idea about the receipt!
Calorific value refers to the water produced when gas is burned, which is why we have condensing boilers, they condense the water and recover heat which would otherwise be lost. Volume correction deals with the actual flow of gas. And that's the science bit!;)0 -
afternoon:D
ive been busy in the garden this morning. ds1 has done some painting in the pantry, its coming along nicely. will take some pics later. i have done weeding and digging and a few alterations in the garden and have started the makings of a raised bed. i have been to buy some seeds, which i have planted and are now on the windowsill in the kitchen. we have planted the bulbs in the decorated pots for the "grannys" for xmas, so all in all it has been quite a productive day! HM burgers and chips have been requested again tonight! i dont mind too much as i made extra the other day so i just have to get them out of the freezer and make the chips...plus, with the veg in them i cant really complain can i?:D
i havent done any baking today as yet, but the rolls i made yesterday will be perfect with the burgers tonight. i may get in the kitchen later on and make some cakes/donuts....we shall see! i need to find a cheap bit of lino for the pantry as it is just bare wood down at the moment. off to take some pics:)
ps...is anyone else planting anything atm?November NSD's - 70
