Morning! (well just about!)
Work has been hectic this morning and my poor children have been neglected hehe, well DS thinks it's great as I've let him watch CBeebies all morning.
I've got my sisters (12 and 9) coming round after school and I'm trying to find something to make that they will both eat. 12yr old is allergic to vinegar and chocolate foodwise, lots of other food makes her feel ill as well but she can't be tested as it would mean she had to come off all of her medication - she's allergic to dust, dogs and grass that they know about and has to carry an Epi pen anyway so coming off the medication for 6 weeks is just not a good idea. The foods that cause reactions seem to be quite random, for example something she eats one day, might give her a reaction if she eats it again another time. Or things she has eaten before can randomly make her ill! She also has a dodgy stomach valve which means she feels sick a lot and acid often comes back up but doesn't get far enough for her to actually be sick. Because of this she can't eat anything fried.
I'm always so scared to make anything for her in case it sets her off but I'm fed up of giving them fish fingers and waffles from the freezer every time they eat here!! Luckily now she's old enough to say within 1 mouthful whether it's going to affect her or not so I've got fish fingers as a back up
I was thinking of making the apple braid dough but with mozzarella and some garlicky butter inside for a kind of cheesy garlic bread, and then make iced buns with the rest of the dough. But I don't know what to put with the garlic breadPlease inspire me girls!!
I need to pop to Sainsburys for some nappies for DD that I forgot the other day so can get any other ingredients that I don't have.
After reading the chapati recipes I really fancy the curry I put in the freezer the other day but 9yr old sister doesn't like curry

Just a thought, might be worth seeing if peoples libraries have these books in, saves buying the books, I do it a lot now with recipe books as I found there was only a quarter or less in most books that I would actually use, just copy the recipes I like out before taking them back. Most libraries have an online facility for ordering now aswell, in fact I think all of them do. One of my missions today is to see if there is a library bus comes to the village we have just moved to, we had one in the last village and I hate going into town so I usually just used the local on bus services.
Still haven't found a flaky pastry recipe, is there a specific name for it I wonder, or am I spelling it wronghappens a lot. Need one for ham/bacon and egg flan, maybe a quiche aswell, wish cooking came naturally to me and I didn't need to hunt for recipes all the time.
One day I might be more organised...........

Good idea lil_me,I almost always have to order stuff as ours if only a small library and has the grand total of about 4 cookery books  They love me as I'm their best customer although I always have the most obscure books for them to find :rotfl: Keeps them busy

Yategirl, yes I had the Bernadine Lawrence book when the family were at home but I think I passed it on when we became just two. It's excellent.
D&DD Yes your Feed the Family on £4 per day is the older version before inflation took over. I dread to think with today's price rises what the sum would be. Whatever it is the principles remain the same.A man's life consisteth not in the abundance of things which he possesseth. Luke 12 v 150 -

This pastry is absolutely gorgeous made into sausage rolls. In fact, they're on my list for next weeks freezer bake. Last time I made it the sausage rolls just flew off the plate and not such a faff when you get down to it really.AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

I think the strict instruction to use a palette knife is so your warm hands don't melt the grated frozen butter - this recipe is sooo much simpler than mine, can't think why I never thought of grating before. The classic calls for softening and dabbing the softened fat over two thirds of the dough, quarter turn, roll, repeat - oh, I'd have to look up how many times! With a spell in the fridge every so often too, as I recall...
Thanks for this Dee, you have solved my dilemna! As I tend to buy everything "reduced to clear" where possible and freeze, there is limited fridge time left once I defrost. Tonights tea is a pack of good quality sausages, "50% extra free" bought on date and due to time constraints just lobbed in the freezer on return from shops. (I would normally have portioned into bags before freezing.) So NOW I can make sausage rolls, inspired by cheerfulness' post, get ahead for xmas and not waste any leftover sausages!!:T
Good luck with your sister's Jen, my youngest daughter, now ten, was born prematurely with a reflux stomach valve and let's just say, burping her was a lottery at best!0 -
Evening all
Am having a day of it today - had a bad time this mornign with my friend and a messed up tattoo so had to drag her to another tattooist as she was in excruitating pain and turns out the original tattooist who did her tattoo has been certified 'legally blind' for the last 5 years and yet he tattooed her yesterday!
Also ben broke out in spots after school so had to take him to the doctors, and get him checked, they arent sure if its impetigo, possible reooccurance of chicken pox or jsut a skin infection but they took so bloody long to see us by the time we got out the pharmacy was closed and hes supposed to have his jabs tomorrow so think i will have ot gve it a miss because i forgot to ask if it was ok for him to have them.
Right all i have a challenge for you - I want to make my mum a birthday present tomorrow - basically i have NO money and a homemade gift is about all i can do - i have a picture fo ben for her (his first school picture) but i know she loves PEppermint creams so id like to make these. Im thinking its like egg whites, icing sugar and peppermint flavour for some reason - can anyone give me a recipe?? I need to make them EARLY tomorrow! Plus im plannign on surprising her with an apple braid for her dinner.Time to find me again0
