Cheekylittlemonkey thanks for that recipe, any idea where I can source fenugreek from? I have some dried (powder) but no fresh. Something I haven't got. We don't have any traditional Indian shops near me so that might be a tricky one. Love pakoras however so would love to make them. I have several Indian friends, unfortunately they all live a fair distance away, might give one a shout when he's on MSN next (never on when I need him!) he can ask his Mam where to get it from up here for me, always asks his Mam so I don't think he cooks much lol.
Well I got off the hook with the puddingshaving one made for me..maybe next year
I might still have a go if I am feeling brave one day next week.
I did go shopping, I bought 30 eggsthey were only 25p for half dozen fresh barn eggs as they are dated 1st December, oh and more for when they are gone with longer dates so that makes it, erm, 58 eggs in my fridges
so I am thinking maybe quiche or flan as I have bacon pieces. Think I will seek a recipe. DP likes 'flaky' pastry ham and egg flan (not puff pastry) so might try and find a recipe for that as I have never made it. He gets it from the little deli near us who won't give me the recipe, nasty person
Good bit about shopping, treated myself to some ceramic ramekins and some metal pudding tins (ikkle ones) bad bit is I have £13 left until Sunday, GULP!One day I might be more organised...........

Mother Noah. So glad the lemon curd was a success. I omitted to say that it only keeps about 6 weeks (try keeping it that long, it's never worked here) and should be stored in a cool place preferably the fridge.
Oooo I have such memories of that lemon curd when I was small and my mother used to make it. We had no fridge in those days and it was kept on the panty shelf. Very tempting to see it there daring you. And yes I dare. I made many a trip to the pantry with a teaspoon and oh the joy.:jA man's life consisteth not in the abundance of things which he possesseth. Oh my Gran and Grandad used to always have HM lemon curd in, when we stayed there (both sadly passed away now) they used to make tea and toast with lemon curd on for breakfast, the smell of the two together still reminds me of it now, only part missing is no sound of their dog banging his tail on the radiator to get us up :rotfl: he knew the quicker we had our brekkie the quicker he got his left overs. getting all nostalgic now. Oh apart from Sundays, that was bacon butty day!
OH BOTHER! I knew there was something else. I wrote ground rice on the shopping list for one of the recipes, bought it, now can I knickers remember which recipe it was for :rotfl: can anyone else remember :rotfl: I should make a note of these thingsOne day I might be more organised...........

It's been one of those days today..started off with great plans
I haven't been to bed since I got up Sunday morning yet  and I'm still not tired..Think someones spiking the Tesco's coffee with something :rotfl:
I thought seeing as I wasn't going to bed last night I'd grope through the banking, paperwork and suchlike..Got all that done and planned to do the xmas puds and cakes today but OH wanted to go to the shops *sigh*
I was so disorganised..(nothing new there..) I forgot the lists I'd finally got round to making and my brain didn't function too well in the cold !! I got about 3 little bits and thats it..Then DS2's school phoned (another accident..sure he's got a target on his head  ) he's fine now though
Soo how many pages have I got to catch up on before I finally crash ???
lil_me ground rice could be for a bakewell??
Bella thats a brilliant book..I'll buy it for the boys to give to me for xmas thankyou so muchI adore things like that!!

D&DD As well as The Shirley Goode Kitchen I have three other books written by her.
More for you Money by Shirley Good and Erica Griffiths.
Goode for One - written for singles
Have a Goode Year - How to celebrate on a shoestring - contains ideas for all the main festivals throughout the year.
I have looked on Amazon, they have one copy of Moor for your Money and it's £75:mad: - not very MSE.
Hope you get a good night's sleep.A man's life consisteth not in the abundance of things which he possesseth. Luke 12 v 150 -
I want more for your money too but not at £75!!!!! I have "The Shirley Goode kitchen" which is good... am quite keen to get the other 2 affordable ones though! The other good book is "how to feed your family for £5 a day" by Bernadine Lawrence - it's worth reading to refresh your memory of good tips even if you (and you do!) know all the basics....0

Lil_me, you can omit Fenugreek if you don't have it. The spices more than make up for it. If you have fresh coriander you could add that instead. do not add dry leaves though, it never tastes the same and sometimes just ruins the whole dish.
I'm sorry I didn't have time to elaborate yesterday and only posted a recipe, I was so busy and had to go out, so was away from the PC most of the day, hence I just posted it before I went out of the door.
You can make a myriad of dishes from Atta flour, like plain or stuffed paranthe, rotis/chapattis, puri's (these are made for special occasions as they are fried), you can use gram flour to make a batter for many things too, like potato patties and snacks.
If you have a few spuds left over you can make spicy indian potato wedges.
I have loads of recipies so don't know where to start to be honest.
I made chilli cheese paneer and coriander and garlic naan breads last night for tea. I make my own paneer (indian cheese). I make allsorts from curries to snacks and desserts. I married a Hindu man and MIL has passed on most of her skills and recipies to me (otherwise her son would never get fed properly) mind you, he thinks our british food is so bland, so whenever I make anything 'English' I have to make it with an Indian twist also. English food is very far and few between in this household though. I do a lot of baking but to be honest a lot of it gets wasted (not very moneysaving) he hasn't got a sweet tooth and hes vegetarian and there's only the two of us. Not very moneysaving!0
