Removing 'ghosting' from frosted glass?

We put some of those peel-able Christmas stickers on a pane of frosted glass last year and on removal it left the outline. Is there any way we can restore the glass and remove the outline?

Buy the same stickers and put them in the same place, then you won't have to worry about them for another month.;)

Has the glue from the stickers removed the frosting? It's not entirely clear from the photo. If it has, I would think you could only remove the frosting from all of the pane to make it uniform. Otherwise, if what I'm seeing is the remnants of the glue, any reasonable solvent should clear it off. Try with something mild like washing up liquid first. If that doesn't work, step up to rubbing it with a little white spirit.

The glass looks like its "satin" obscure. If it is then satin marks very easily and its possble the glue from the stickers has damaged the finish . If its just glue residue then You could try as Aylesbury suggests and use some white spirit on some cotton cloth ,try a small area first.

Thanks to both of you for your considered responses. I fear it is more likely to be damage to the finish than residue but may try the white spirit anyway, maybe testing it in the corner of the lowest pane where it is least visible. Running my fingers over the affected area I cannot feel any difference between the affected and non-affected areas but the area where the stickers were is more translucent than the rest.

Is it possible to replace the glass?

The glass itself shouldn't be too expensive.

Can you fit it yourself or with the help of a friend or relative?

That's Acid Etched Glass or possibly Sand Blasted Glass, Google both for care instructions.

I had a similar issue - tried various recommended 'stuff' but in the end neat fairy liquid came up trumps. I left it on the glass for 24/48hours before washing off with white vinegar. Some of the glass needed more attempts but overall it worked well.
