Ok please be honest and tell me if im mad lol!
Ive just seen a rather gorgous dolls house in the Sunday mag - and I really want to get it for my girls for xmas
Now my girls will only be 1 and 2 1/2 so I know they are still young ..... but I know my oldest especially will love it (she loves anything that involves little people)
So first off - is this a terrible idea?
And second - if it isnt what is the most money saving way to do it?
I dont think i could make one myself as much as id love to, I just dont have the time - putting together a flat pack I could just about manage.
Can I buy one and pay by installments? Does anyone know a company that does this
Is ebay the cheapest place to go?
Any advice greatly appreciated

I think that you could get them a fab child friendly one from somewhere like ELC or one of those plastic ones with family and furniture from Woolies/Asda.

A 'proper' dolls house wolud be a great idea when they are much older and can really look after all the little bits that you can get to go with it.
If, however, you really are taken with the idea your local Sue Ryder Charity shop have great new Dolls Houses and furniture and my friend (shop manager) has let many customers pay weekly, you can get them on line to but have to pay in full

i think its a brill idea! every girl should have a dolls house :-)
we bought my daughter a similar one to this http://www.toysrus.co.uk/Product.aspx/TruHome/TruSpecialOffers/TRUSpecialOffersDolls/137855?ref=Search
a couple of years a go. we bought it from toys r us but it has one less floor than this one. its good quality for the price.
she is 12 now and still plays with it loads.
it comes with people but she also uses polly pockets, mini bratz and any other small doll so you could put in to the house what you want your girls to use and maybe keep anything you don't think they should have yet for when they are older.0 -
the childrens ones are lush, however it never stops... the wooden children elc one are fine but if you look into the more 'adult' ones you can keep adding and keep adding. I had one ended up selling it on as all my other crafts were suffering and its like a little money trap ~ me never again... but as you say every little girl loves a dolls house0

I bought my daughter (she is 10) one last year from the Sue Ryder charity shop. They are brand new and gorgeous. As well as getting her something she can treasure I also helped the charity.
I think the ones you see in newspaper supplements can be quite expensive.
At one and two and a half, a proper wooden dolls house may not be the best thing to buy for your daughters at the moment. How about buying one aimed at their age group and wait until they are a bit older to buy a more detailed one?
I bet when you do get one you'll be like me...I think I am more interested in decorating my daughters than she is!£2 savers club. No.90. Aim £500.0 -
I always wanted a dolls house didnt get one till l was 45 my children bought me one for xmas when l had breast cancer so its very special.3yrs on l am doing it slowly as l can afford it and that adds to the pleasure. If you want to get something for the girls to have forever then if you can afford it etc go for it! I find www.thedollshouse.com a great place for quality bits. hope this helps!:j this money saving is such fun:T0

Costco had a really great one last week for around £45, i think it had 4 floors with a loft space too. It also came with aroud 100 pieces. Maybe it would be worth having a look at this one as it is extremely similar to those in the sunday magazine today.
I would have bought this for my daughter for christmas who is 5 but i had already bought her the barbie dream house out of the great universal cat back in sept
Good luck whatever you decide xx0 -
Wow!
I honestly thought everyone was going to tell me im nuts lol
Been looking at the links and hunting down the ones mentioned and the Toys are Us one is winning lol - its kinda what im after at a good price - The only complaint is its very plain but thats nothing a bit of decorating wont fix
Would make it more personal as well
I have to confess a dolls house was always something I wanted as a child but my mum was obsessed about BIG toys that would 'end up gathering dust in the corner' (she will have a fit if she knew I was even thinking of buying a dolls house!)
My eldest DD does have a small ELC dolls house

She loves it to pieces so I can just see her face if she was to get a 'proper' one
I think ive made my mind up, thanks everyone

My daughters 10 and wants one for Christmas - Is it better to get a 'proper one" than the toy one for a child that age?0
