Do you work?
If so try the bank where your wages go into first.0 -
If you have a credit card, then you will have a credit rating.
Your bank is the best place to try for a loan, but if youre having trouble it might be worth questioning if u really need it.
Bear in mind a Loan and a Credit Card are two completely different types of borrowing.
You might also want to consider that a company might have sent you something in the post which hasnt reached you due to the strikes.
Good Luck0 -
i work full time and my credit card is with my bank that my wages are paid into alliance and lecister but the card is with MBNA. The guy i spoke to today said it is because I do not have and debts like a mortgages etc and that It could be that I have applied for several cards in the last month and had my car insurance done.0

Hi Heidim,
The problem is probably one of having little history in your credit file. If the MBNA card has just started having interest on it then im guessing its a 9/12 month introductory offer? If so im confused how you got it because those offers tend to go to people with history.... a good ione too.
Anyway not to worry too much. You credit files probably show a number of applications for credit. Thats a bad thing because it shows you are attempting to gain large amounts of credit. Thats a bad sign if you look at it from their point of view.
Iv been here before and im still on the road to building a good quality history for my future. I think you should do the following:
- Get onto the three main credit scoring/filing companies experian, my call credit and equifax. Get a copy of your report and have a good flick through. Identify any possible problems (Lack of history and too many applications in your case) and make a plan to sort it out.
- If your file shows like you said that you have little history. Then you will need to keep making payments to your MBNA card and also check its listed as an account on your credit files.
- Dont apply for credit for about 6 months.
- After 6 months perhaps apply for an overdraft with your bank.
- After another few months apply for another credit card (Probably a Capital One Classic, Aqua or something like that. Its going to be high APR but were not using it for its lending capabilities.
Ultimately your aiming to have a broad spectrum of lending accounts open on your credit file (Credit Cards, Loans, Current Account, Overdraft, Mobile Phone Contracts) all being kept upto date. Eventually mortgages will be added to this file and thats where you start to get a credit score up into the 900's at the moment I would probably say your score is in the 600's and it will take a few years to get it to 800 - 850, thats where you want to be.
Hope this helps, took me ages to get this info but now iv got it im improving my credit and its paying off in spades!0 -
thank you for your help think im just gonna cry why do the make it so hard ... Myfella thinks I got credit card as a new account owner thing I will be shutting my 3 barclay accounts in the next moth or so but already have an overdraft with my current account. I think I have 2 other accounts that i had from my teens should I look to closing them too ???will it help ??0

Probably a good idea to close those account. Unless you want to use them as a way to budget ie: One account for bills, one for food etc etc its actually a good way to budget and Martin talks abount it in his book.
Nothings going to help other than what iv just said. Applying for more cards is going to make things worse so dont even think of applying all over the place just in case... It wont work...
Sorry for the bad news love, you sound hard up I hope things will work out.0 -
thank you my other half has just agreed to pay my card off and for me to pay him back at a monthly amount. I am also going to sell some stuff on ebay to clear my £200 argos card and to pay off my beauty courses (have all beauty equipment that I hope to make about £500). I am going to close my barclays account as they have been so horrible to me but keep my savers account with abbey and pay about a tenner a week to have some spare cash. I have a mobile phone but always keep to payment dates. I also have only made one late payment to my argos card. I pay my car insurance monthly and buy car tax stamps so hopefully everything will be sorted fingers crossed xxxxxxx0
