Thanks for the advice, i think probably its going to be best OH does set up his own basic account once he has gone BC - sure by the time we have saved fees and done the deed he may feel a bit better about things and perhaps want to set up his own account

Why are you keeping your BR a secret from your employer? Is it going to affect your current job? They would find out sooner or later.

Why should you tell your employer that your BR, unless you are in a position where you are exposed to cash, finance or open to bribes (like the Police :D )

I've never told them about my massive overdrafts in the past, why would I want to tell them about going BR. Again it’s another one of those things from 1800AD, where if you are BR you will start stealing from your employer to get enough money to live on.

I'm more financially secure than anyone in my office, now I've gone BR. :j

I had to tell my employment agency because they were questioning why I requested a cheque instead of the normal BACS method of payment.

I'm just cautious because even though we are in the 21st century, some employers are "old school" and stuck in their ways and may frown upon BR :D

    Peter Pan,

Make sure you get your timings right, there's nothing worst than having your BR, 2/3 days before you pay date. There is nothing stopping your OH opening a basic account (Co-Op Cashminder) before BR. After BR just ask the OR to unfreeze it.

Told employer that my bank had closed my account because I had claimed back charges. Got the cheque made out to OH.

Nil Tax code might be my big give away.

There is also nothing in my contract about BR, so if they sack me I'll be back to court for other reasons, this time in my favour.

Stubie - there are several reasons why you may be given that tax code. You may want to look them up in case you're asked. Great answer btw about why your bank account was closed!

Not necessarily. If they saw it in the paper then yes they would find out otherwise they would have to go and do a search on the insolvency website or your credit files and what reason would they have to do that?

I have seen jobs advertised where they run a credit check on you before offering you a position.

There are credit checks for a lot of temp jobs or even for counter clerk jobs/call centre jobs in financial places. They ususally tell you in the ad that applicants will be requird to complete a check
