How much is the mark up on wedding dresses in bridal shops?

Hi, can someone advise approximately what the percentage mark up is for wedding dresses in bridal stores compared to what the store pays for it? Just an rough idea would be appreciated! Thanks

Only the shop will know that. Could be anything from 10% to 500% depending on what and where you are buying.

I highly doubt a shop would make 5000% mark up unless they were also the designer and dress maker.

Enough to cover rent, rates, staff, heat, light, water, stock, possibly VAT, business tax & personal tax & whatever profit the owner wants to make.

Frankly the words "wedding" & "bridal" pretty much allow the proprietor to make a several hundred percent profit. I'd be focusing on the charity shops myself or considering something imported at some risk from China instead.

But as mentioned, if they sell 1 dress a day they need to cover staff costs and the rent or mortgage on the property and rates and water and electricity etc etc etc...

Some weeks they may only sell 1 or maybe 2 and want a profit at the end of the day.

You could always make the dress yourself or buy it from China. Just make sure you get it many many many months in advance and have someone handy with the needle and thread to alter it.

Plenty of places to get them cheaper.

Designer / Maker / Shop owner and shop staff etc all need to be paid.

There's a huge difference between the mark-up on a single item in a shop, and the profitability of that shop.

It's entirely possible an item could be marked up many hundreds or even thousands of percent, and the shop still to be making a loss.

Post 4 in the other thread indicates the designer is in Australia. If that is the case then the weak pound will add to the cost.
