I confess I bought some new outdoor gear early in the year, including a beautifully warm ski jacket (no I don't ski) which was half price. But this only came about because I won a £200 voucher which had to be spent in the shops in the Xscape building, almost all of which are "activity" clothing shops, and was only valid for 12 months .So I went for warm stuff for dogwalking - jacket, boots, waterproof trousers (you can get very soggy on a mobility buggy in the rain) and leggings.
But other than that I have bought no clothes this year; and what I wear each day depends upon what Mr LW hoiks out of the cupboard for me; I need assistance with dressing, and I have gotten into the habit of just letting him grab whatever's to hand. I suppose I ought to take more interest.......If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
I really like the sound of your OH's wardrobe and entirely agree with him about logos and pictures. I mostly avoid patterns, too, but not always.
A restricted colour palette, and favouring certain styles which suit lifestyle and are easy to maintain seem eminently sensible to me.
Many a person has commented that, by putting certain restrictions on their choices, they ended up better dressed than before.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I watched that video!....I could LIVE in her closet!...Seriously, I live in a small flat (small lounge, kitchen, bedroom, shower-room, with a short and narrow hallway) ..my 'closet' is a single rail in the bedroom, 3 drawers in the bedroom chest (one for undies, one for nightwear, and one for 'other' stuff...currently thin jumpers....I have a suitcase which currently holds my teeshirts and summer tops/slacks...and this will be swapped over and filled with jumpers come spring.
And how many boots did she have??????? I can only wear Hotter shoes (and those in just 3 styles) ...and as they are expensive I only have a few pairs.
I have lost a considerable amount of weight...and when I buy something new (in a smaller size....boy does it ever feel good to buy 'number' sizes instead of a row of xs!!!) it is strictly on a one in-one out basis.
And everything is mix/match...I have very little colour/style sense and also cannot manage complicated things like buttons!...oh and everything is 'bung it in the machine'-washable, no hand-wash only delicates here!0 -

He is tall but not wide, so it's not easy finding things that fit well; he won't wear anything with writing, a logo or pictures on it and he doesn't like patterns. These things limit his options somewhat, so his wardrobe has evolved to contain plain trousers, shorts, t-shirts and linen shirts in navy, grey, blue and white. Everything goes with everything else and he doesn't have to think about what to wear. When something starts to look a bit shabby, it is relegated to dog walking/ gardening where it stays until too disreputable even for that, and is replaced by something as similar as possible, ( not always an easy task!). I haven't bought any clothes apart from underwear and footwear for about two years and when I do I will be going for plain and practical good quality items. We'll probably end up looking like Howard and Hilda! ( For those youngsters among you, they were a couple from an old sitcom who dressed in matching outfits)0

My 'closet' is a 3 ft wide hanging rail, a 5 drawer COD and a small wicker hamper of sweaters in the bottom of the airing cupboard and I still feel (correctly, I believe) that I have too many clothes.
However, I am not a wealthy person and will be using what I have and wearing it out. Very few items were actually bought new, most were charity shop specials and some are cast-offs from a pal. Who has great taste and shops in nicer places that me.......:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Well I am female but my clothes are the same......no patterns, no logos, no frills, no flounces. I am tall so I like good tailoring.
I too have been gradually decluttering and simplifying. I love it.0 -
Just watched a bit of that video.......she’s an amateur......:rotfl:
I probably have just as many......and like her, all beautifully stored and curated. Many of mine are vintage and all are loved and cherished. They give me joy so I’m not parting with them so there....
TBH I don’t spend a lot. I buy mainly from charity shops, etc. I did a purge last year and i wished I hadn’t got rid of as much as I did.
One day my future granddaughters will have a field day. :rotfl:0 -
This is really interesting and I'd like to join in. I've been decluttering via KonMari for a couple of years and I'm really feeling the difference. For anyone wanting to declutter, pop over to that thread for advice and support.
I gave up f/t work, commuting, buying coffee-shop breakfasts, corporate clothing etc just over two years ago and can honestly say that I haven't missed the income, I'm now working p/t and am so lucky that I can support my needs this way. Since then apart from some work clothes I think I've bought one new coat (Nectar vouchers) and everything else has been from CSs or home made.
I try to cook from scratch every day but I'd love to expand this to make my own bread. The garden was a disaster this year, I'm hoping for better next year. I'd like to spend less time on the Internet - irony, I know, but I need to cut down on blog-reading and general timewasting surfing. I also really need to exercise more.
Getting rid of Stuff - paperwork, clothes, ornaments, unfinished projects, broken things, stuff that made me feel sad or cross or frustrated, even some furniture has made my life so much easier.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
I have 2 drawers, top one contains tee shirts and vest tops, bottom one contains leggings, shorts and knickers.
I have three hooks on the wall, one holds hats and scarves, one holds my two dresses and one holds my dressing gown.
I have two pairs of skechers a pair of wellys and a pair of court shoes, these are on the floor in front of the drawers.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
I have really enjoyed reading this and thinking about my own life - I would like to downsize somewhat but not real to move home yet. It would be great to just to be able to get rid of things and not buy more!
We have an android box for TV but haven't actually watched it much - saved us money every month from no cable service! I have shared prime amazon so can watch films etc on that if I want.
I have been cooking more from scratch and have used offers to have food and meals to cook delivered - just didnt carry on with a subscription afterwards! It was nice for special meals etc though.
I need to do a wardrobe audit and sort out more of a capsule wardrobe. I have stuff that doesn't fit and to be honest it probably never will - it just takes up space and makes me feel guilty when I see it.
I do spend a lot of money travelling back to the UK to see my elderly parents who can no longer fly - I just need to look at ways of funding this better than using credit cards. Maybe sell some things on local fb pages and declutter at the same time.0
