New heating system quotes

Just moved into new house. It needs a new boiler and on closer inspection some radiators and piping need replacement. Called firm I used to use and they gave me an eye watering quote of £6300 to replace the whole lot, a 4 bed house.. I don't disagree with installing a new system but on reflection I think some of their suggestions such as moving the boiler may be unnecessary expense.

So called second company but they can't come out to quote until tuesday. I have already booked in a date with the first company to start on the 13th but not yet paid the deposit. What should I do about this booking? Cancel it now or wait for 2nd quote which will only come about a week before.

We have a 4 bed house. We've just paid £2k for a new boiler, and when we moved in we paid £2k to have all the heating pipework replaced. Add in the price of 12 radiators and that's getting quite close to 6k I guess,

    I paid £4.5k this included:
New worcester combi boiler (was not combi before)
    Removal of old stuff
    9 or 10 new radiators
    New pipe work
Relocated boiler from downstairs bedroom in to an area in the loft (bungalow).

I was very happy with the price as it involved a lot of work moving the boiler to new location.

This was last year and all has been good (touch wood)

They are proposing moving the boiler to the garage which would free me up space for an airing cupboard but this seems an unnecessary expense. I want a second opinion but am unsure what I should tell the company I have a provisional booking with.

I would go with the truth & see what they say. While you're talking to them you could mention that you don't want the boiler moved (& other things you don't want) & how much would that save?
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
  • i paid £2600 for WB 30i and new pipework/ installation of Central heating.
I paid for the 6 radiators myself which prob came to another £1000.

For £6300 they could move the boiler to the moon.

That's an eye watering quote tbh, get at least another two.
