Mental Health Support

The town I live in has an NHS mental health source that you can refer yourself to & do not need to go through a GP. It is mostly done by phone or group therapy. Although our GP does seem to hand out the cards on a "use if you feel the need" basis. But some GPs do not seem to be happy dealing with any type of mental issues.0

You might want to read more of Prof Loftus' work before using her to support your assertion. At no point does she suggest that working through suppressed memories in a therapeutic setting is a bad thing.
Psychotherapy can be a life saver for many, although it is not appropriate for all. Please don't allow your own ignorance to dissuade others from seeking help.0 -
I originally had counselling almost 7 years ago after being referred by the NHS, and then about a year ago i had CBT through the NHS and have been told i have anxiety with PTSD and depression.
Its more that most things are under control, but its these repressed things that every now and then crop up, and i wont even know until something seemingly random will trigger it. I just thought as an adult now its best to try and talk to someone about these things, maybe try and uncover what i've been suppressing and address them.
My GP has said that since i have done the CBT and i have been on medication there isnt really any other help they can offer.
They may help you to better understand your triggers .0 -
I've just been reading about a new app called PTSD hub. I have to stress I've not looked at it and don't know how useful it is but it's been developed by someone with PTSD to share coping strategies. Might be worth a look,All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

"What I found is that most of these situations involved some particular form of psychotherapy.
I designed some experiments to study the processes being used in this psychotherapy...
When I published the work and began to speak out against this particular brand of psychotherapy it created pretty bad problems for me…hostility…."Psychotherapy can be a life saver for many, although it is not appropriate for all. I'm not speaking from ignorance, my own experience is that therapy has varied from useless to damaging to deliberately malicious. This and this sum it up quite well.0 -
You can self refer to your local IAPT service which will offer treatment for PTSD. Just google IAPT + your area.Homeowner:j0
