PIP Assessment Friday.

Hi All,

I had made a PIP claim for chronic pain and fatigue (Fibro) my gp had written a letter to say my walking is limited to 10-20m without resting/sitting.

I had a call this afternoon to be invited to an assessment on Friday. As you know this is so last minute and. I am really nervous.

Can anyone please provide me with tips and advice? Shall I take a copy of my form with me?

Take a copy of everything with you, including any medical evidence. A few days after the assessment phone the DWP and request a copy of the assessment report, reading that will give you a good idea about your likelihood of receiving an award.

Don't just answer those questions with a yes or no, give as much detail as possible to how your condtions affect you daily. Remember PIP isn't about a diagnosis, it's how your conditions affect you daily. They'll be watching you from the minute you arrive to the minute you leave.

Did you send more evidence than just a letter from your GP? Hopefully you did, the more you send the better. If you didn't then take it with you and hand it in.

Decision times cary accross the country and depend on backlog in your area. Good luck.

Thank you so much for your reply, yes I did enclose more evidence my fibromyalgia was diagnosed earlier in this year and that was done by my GP, I have not seen a specialist as of yet. But I have included letters from my past neurologist reports etc.

Not that it matters for PIP but just so you know, fibromyalgia can only be offically diagnosed by a Rheumatologist. I would ask your GP for a referral if i were you. Good luck with the PIP claim.

In addition to the excellent advice already given, I would suggest:
Have a family member / friend go with you and take notes during your assessment;
Take a diary / notes with examples of how you can't do the activities reliably so you can tell the assessor about relevant examples.
