I think you will need to put that in writing since you are no longer in the country.
When I wanted to close an account (with HSBC) I just wrote a letter and handed it in to the local branch.Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Yes, write to the branch or mailing address then add Reino Unido (Regne Unit if in Catalunya) to the address. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
If you are no longer a UK resident then I guess you wouldn't qualify for the account anyway.
Do you have a debit card?
If so think I would be phoning them to check what they want you to do. Clearly you wouldn't want to send a valid debit card through the postal system (unless it was cut up)Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Ms Hound, a slightly bizzare comment.
You don't need to send a debit card back in the UK.
I doubt they'd suggest you do so from overseas. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

And having left the UK does not necessarily mean that a person already holding it 'wouldn't qualify for the account anyway':cool:0 -
As I already said:
Clearly you wouldn't want to send a valid debit card through the postal system (unless it was cut up)
Well presumably if you close the account they want to know you have destroyed the debit card?
Why is that bizarre?
and for most UK accounts you need to be a UK resident? That's one of the first questions to establish your eligibility.Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!
