My hard disk failed right shortly after a backup. I was pleased that I had a recent update. Anyway, I placed the files onto my hard drive, checked the size of the transfer, fine. However on opening it up I cannot find what I am looking for.Suggestions please.

Basically a program called Band In A Box. I cannot remember the software I used.

Those backup files, they have a name.extension and possibly a directory too. write then all in your post as someone may recognise it or the format used.

Method 2: on those backup files, a hex editor may show the program that created it, BUT if you save any changed settings back you most likely will corrupt your whole backup and you not be able to recover anything.

    How did you backup ?

Did you use some software or did you simply copy the files onto an external device ?

Well what's on the hard drive? If you copied the files then they will have the same names as they had on the original disk. But if you used software it's most likely that there will be a single large file, and you'd need to use the same software to recover the data.

If it helps, it looks like Band in a Box files have an extension of .sgu (and possibly .mgu).

As with your other thread , you are not providing enough information for anyone to help you ..

Come on - work a little - when you say "opened it up" , what did you open up ?

A folder full of files ? Some backup software ? What ?

Sounds like a conversation with my parents, all the important information omitted. I put teamviewer on their computer when I was visiting them so I could fix it without them having to "explain" what they'd done. I'm not suggesting this here.

Andy: surely a person with your advanced investigative and technical skills should be able to work with "Something went wrong somewhere"? ;)
