Boiler economy setting- Gas Safe Installer?

Hello all. It seems that even the boiler manufacturer can’t answer my question.

We currently have an ideal system boiler which heats our house and also heats our pressurised hot water cylinder. My question is that we have an “E” setting on our boiler. I realise this reduces the DCH water temperature to around 60 which in effect allows the boiler to condenxeand be more efficient. My question relates to this, “if the boiler is set to E, will this affect the Hot Water Cylinder or will the boiler know that the thermostat on the tank is calling for heat and heat over what E is set to or will it only heat the water to 60c as per the E setting?”

I’m worried that as our hot water tank is set to 65 that if we use the E setting we are never going to get the tank up to the 65 degrees that it has been set at.

So in summary does E relate to the temperature for DCH and DHW or just DCH.

Thanks in advance!

I don’t know the definite answer but it will probably depend what controls you have. If you just have standard controls, timer and stats then the boiler will not know what your asking for, it just receives 240v at the switch live and it fires.
If the controls are wired directly back to the boilers PCB then it’s possible it will know you have selected HW.

Where have you got the E setting related to 60c?
  • When you turn the knob to e then the digital display states the temperature as 60c

Try sending an email to technical.customerservices@idealboilers.com if you haven't done so already.

I sent them a similar enquiry about my Ideal Logic + Heat 24.

They told me "When the boiler is in the 'e' or 'economy' position, the flow temperature set point for the boiler is 70 degrees Celsius so, the hot water flowing from the boiler and circulating around the system will leave the boiler at around 70 degrees."

I have my HWC thermostat set to 65 and it seems fine. But I only have the hot water on for an hour each day anyway.

My understanding is that if your thermostat is set to the end 65 but your boiler is only sending water out at 60, then your boiler will run constantly (when it is timed to be on) as the HWC will never get to the required temperature.
