Big screw up by Apple in their High Sierra build. They left root access accessible with a blank password.

Too easy ... I though the bait would have to wait on the hook much longer than that.

Are you suggesting that reports of the current Apple issue are incorrect? If so, why do you think Apple has issued instructions (dated yesterday) on how to change the root password? Just a meaningless coincidence?

Welcome to a world where people see and take things from their perspective.

For anyone worried about this:
Open up terminal
Type in:
sudo passwd -u root
You'll be prompted for a password, put in the one you use to log into your account. You'll then be asked for a new password for the root account, set a strong one you can remember. You'll then be asked to confirm it, re-enter it, press return, job done. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
