A note from your doctor stating if your fit for work or not, sometimes they may say you are fit for work with reasonable adjustments, ie specialist chair, light duties gradual return to work with reduced hours/days etc.

In their infinite wisdom, somebody in government decided that it would be a good idea to change from a name everybody understood - medical certificate or sick note to one which very few understood - Statement of Fitness for Work or 'Fit Note'.
The document still provides the same information as a 'Sick Note' but with additional space for the GP to add information about suggestions for phased return to work, adjustments to working environment etc.

I'm waiting to get my mr decision and then perhaps going to appeal. Then I had the thought to go from jsa to esa while appealing. Should I wait or get this "fit note" from my gp? Think I might go really off the rails before things are sorted out.

  • Get an (un)fit note , at the very least it will absolve you of the duty to sign-on at the JoBCenter for three months (or however long).
