Advice re selling on ebay

Hi everyone

First of all thanks for a great forum. I found the forum 3 weeks ago and I feel that the forum finally made me sit up and take steps to do something about my os debt. Shall update more once the DMP is actually up and running (at setting up stage at moment).

What I would like advice on is selling on ebay. I have purchased loads from ebay and have a paypal account with my current bank acct however I have now opened a Bank of Scotland Easycash account which I am going to be using in place of the existing current account. Does anyone know if I could change my paypal account to the BoS one and if not if I were to sell my items on ebay and ask for chqs/porders if I would be able to pay them into the Easycash account.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

mayz

    Hiya Mayz!
There is a better board for stuff about Ebay, but in short - yes, you can cahnge your Paypal details to the new account, it's fairly easy.

As someone above said, to accept payments you also need to upgrade your Paypal account to the Premier account - doesn't cost anything, but unfortunately it means they start taking a bit in fees on everything you sell.

Most importantly - it is absolutely essential that you do accept Paypal in your listings - people just can't be bothered sending chqs/POs, and so just won't bid if you don't offer it. If your feedback score is relatively low (under a few hundred), people are also very worried about sending chqs/POs to sellers, as most scammers ask for PO payment, so that too will discourage bids.

I've got a fairly successful Ebay shop and quite a lot of experience of Ebay, so if you need any help/advice and don't find what you're looking for on the Ebay board, feel free to drop me a PM.

    Good luck!
  • Agree with the others - I changed my Paypal a/c to feed into my basic bank account, from a 'proper' account I had at a different bank.

I would say the exception to this is when you are selling items to be picked up only.. In my opinion this should be CASH ONLY - you wouldn't want an item not received claim, unless there is some way to protect against this that I am unaware of..?

    hi again

thanks for all your advice. I shall go ahead and change my bank account on ebay. Also pandapaws if I have any problems I may email you if you don't mind. As mentioned before to have the support of the forum members makes such a difference. Thanks again everyone.

  • I use my current account to make purchases on Ebay and Amazon, but take payments for both of these straight into a Mini-Cash ISA. Luckily Ebaying is going well for me, so my ISA is doing quite well now. I like the idea that I can see the proceeds going straight into a savings account.

I did buy myself a reward for all the packaging hard work, ahem, a 2008 Jose Mourinho calendar to slobber over........ Oh, well worth it!
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!
