Painting Dado Rails

I have just put up new dado rails and want to find out the best way of painting them.
The rails are made of premium solid white oak. Should I do primer + undercoat + top coat?

Wow - the expense of such a beautiful wood and then you're going to hide them?!!!!
Anyway, yes, prime, 2x undercoat, top coat... denibbing in between coats

We waxed the ones we put up about thirty years ago.
Was going to paint them but a mate suggested wax instead.
Best recommendation I've ever had. No regrets whatever.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
Hi,
as suggested wax, but if you want painted, if easy to remove, do primer and undercoat, then refix, and top coat, quicker.
Or do top coat as well, then refix and dab any blemishes.0 -
Painting premium white oak dado rails. Well thats upsetting.0

Sorry, just another voice adding to the list of people wondering why you'd get such a nice wood only to paint it - wouldn't pine or some other cheap softwood (even MDF) have done?0

If you insist on painting them, you should paint them BEFORE fixing
Its so much easiermake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
