Hopefully the payroll staff are told to buck their ideas up and do their job properly! After 7 months and checking numerous times imagine you take on a financial commitment based on your new wages? Highly incompetent of them in my honest opinion.

  • Some interesting responses here.

I did not repeatedly tell them they were overpaying me, as I said, I didn't know. They did repeatedly tell me this was correct however.

Why would I try to keep this money? Because they told me 3 times it was correct, providing me with calculations of why it was correct on each response. Why should I be liable for their mistake which they bring to light, 1 year later? And it was their mistake, many times over. Some people appear to struggle with this concept. I'll lend you money, tell you not to pay it back repeatedly, then a year later ask for it back. Now, the analogy isnt the same as this situation, but the wording is. That is what I draw exception to.

Trying to keep the money isnt theft in the slightest, nor would any of this have cost me my job. I work for a massive company and payroll aren't even based where I am. Literally nobody in my office knows, only the pay team I've been speaking with. And even then, it's not something they can ever fire me for.

However, today payroll responded to my last email and accepted that they were at fault and that I went beyond what should have been required to rectify this issue. They have agreed to waive the overpayment, but my wage will go down to what it should be; can't have everything I guess.

So a good outcome in the end at least.
