    Thanks to everyone for suggestions, all of which I tried and failed. However, I think I have found the problem, tried logging in today and disabled my adguard adblock protection and could log in.

    But I am now totally stumped as none of these setting have changed for well over a year, but this problem only recently occurred. Also as I am on a usage limit with my ISP I have to use a adblocker and don't know how to sort this out.
