Hi there, I went bankrupt in 2003 (being silly, poor and young) and was released from that in 2005,since then I have been very good with regards to money etc and last January I got my first mortgage :-) I have normal bank accounts and have a van on hire purchase for work. Looking to get a credit card for emergencies or for general use, have signed up to experian and mse credit club and have been given 999 and a perfect credit score. Am I likely to get one of the good credit cards (0% for 30 months etc) or am I wasting my time as I don't want a refusal and mark against my credit score.
Thanks in advance
Paul :-)

  • Always ignore your credit score.

If you now have a thin file, you're unlikely to get the prime cards.

However, an eligibility checker would be a good place to start.
  • How and where do I check that ? :-)
  • Showing I have very good eligibility and all my other dashboard scores are very good or perfect. It's linking me to a Sainsburys card best at 95% followed by a few others at 95% (mbna, barclaycard) and a fair few at 90%. I take it this is good? Sorry to keep the questions coming lol

yes that a good indication but the are no guarantees.

If what is reported is accurate you'd expect people in your situation to get the card indicated nine times out of ten or more, however you could be that one who is unsuccessful.

Best to apply for a card and see, despite these indicators then you have little showing you handling credit responsibly so you are a higher risk for providers than others. If you get rejected then maybe try one different application from another provider, and if unsuccessful then leave it for a few months. Alternatively try for a lower credit card after the first one and if you use that responsibly then after six months to a year you may well be accepted for a longer zero per cent card, or one offering rewards etc
