Should I buy 2 or should I buy 4?

Depends what is needed on the vehicle at the time, personally I keep an eye on the wear and try to buy them in pairs.

I always buy in pairs as that's how they usually wear. New tyres go on the rear and the rears get moved to the front.
On front wheel drive cars front tyres wear faster anyway, but the better tyres should be on the rear.

Swap the fronts onto the rear when there is about 3mm of tread left, usual means they all need changing at the same time, nothing quite like changing 4 knackered tyres for 4 brand new tyres at the same time. Although can be heavy on the wallet for those that can't plan ahead.

Not for everyone though as a lot like the new ones on the back but thats a discussion done a million times before.

That's OK as long as you are aware the back end is more likely to step out on a bend in wet or snowy conditions depending how you drive the car.

Last car I had I bought Michelin Cross Climates for the winter which I put on the front until Spring and then put them on the back for Summer.

Summer dry weather, summer wet weather, winter normals and winter studded. Set of 4 + spare of each.

Remember, those tyres are the only contact between your car and the road, and what price safety?

If your preferred tyres are directional and you buy five of them, the tyre you put on the spare wheel would then only be functional for one side of the car.

I run Michelin CrossClimates on all four corners, so my (full-sized) spare wheel is fitted with a part-used bi-directional Goodyear of the same dimensions.
