Can you leave a specified sum (say £5,000) to each of five relatives but also leave the residue of your estate to one of them in addition to the amount specified

Would that not be exactly the same as leaving £5,000 to four and the residue to the fifth?0

Not if the estate ends up at £20k or less as don't absolute amounts have priority over residual amounts?
