NEST and connecting to Logic Heat 15

Hi,

I have just purchased a Nest thermostat and need to connect to my existing Ideal Logic heat 15 boiler.

Is an opentherm harnesss kit required? and then does nest simply replace the existing thermostat using the same wiring?

If anyone can help has experience on setup./installation required, it would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Have a look at the Nest 3 installation guide and the installation guide for your boiler. They are distinct advantages to using an Opentherm connection but the problem is that the standard is open to interpretation. They are reported issues, for example, with the Ideal Vogue and Honeywell Lyric controller.

I have a boiler that works extremely well with a Honeywell Opentherm control. For example, when hot water is required, the Honeywell controller will demand 92C but this is limited to what TMax Set temperature has been set in the boiler profile. When heating is required, Opentherm will calculate what flow temperature is required irrespective of the maximum CH flow temperature that has been set on the boiler manual control reducing the ups and downs. For example, today with an outside temperature of 2 to 5C my gas consumption in a 5 bed house has been less than 2 cubic metres. My return boiler temperature for most of the day has been less than 40C. No prizes for guessing why Opentherm control is now mandated in The Netherlands.

  • hi

i have now been told by ideal boilers that the opentherm is not available for the logic 15.

Therefore i am unsure of the next steps and comparability. I called NEST and they suggested it is okay however ideal boilers suggested otherwise (all be it - i did not get the impression that they are competent enough to answer the question).

Does anyone know if I can connect nest as per the instructions directly where the old thermostat is?
