Bathroom spotlights regs

I am renovating my bathroom (not myself, getting people in), things aren't going too smoothly, so I'd like to check some things before it's too late.
The new bathroom takes up the room where the old bedroom was and a toilet next to it. The loo already had a fan and a false ceiling with lights; bedroom also had a ceiling light. Electrician has installed LED spotlights for me. The lights are fire rated IP65 which I'm happy with. One of the lights is above the shower enclosure. Ceiling height is 250cm.
Does this installation require certification?

All new electrical installations in a bathroom require certification.
Assuming your sparkie is a registered 'competant person' (check!) he can self-certify.
But th questtion you should also be asking is : is an IP65 rated light fitted in zone 1 of a bathroom acceptable?230 V fittings may be installed above a shower or bath but they must be at least IPX4, i.e. enclosed and water protected.

BS7671 requires certification of electrical installation work regardless of whether it is in a bathroom or not.
Also, the lights are not in Zone 1. In fact they are outside of the zones.0 -
Interesting. So do we agree that all electrical work in a bathroom requires certification? What sort of certificate should I ask for?
I am not concerned about the lights themselves - my understanding is that IP65 is suitable for use in all bathroom zones and certainly with a ceiling that high.
I will hopefully see my electrician tomorrow and really hope that he will be providing all required paperwork. If not, I'll be back asking for more advice. (Without this forum I'd be completely lost!)0 -
For the replacement of a distribution board, or for an alteration or addition including the provision of (a) new circuit(s), you should receive an Electrical Installation Certificate. For work which does not include the provision of a new circuit then you should reeceive a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate. Like-for-like replacement of accessories do not require a certificate, although a MEIWC can be used for this purpose. What sort of certificate should I ask for?
Anything above 2.25m is outside the zones.certainly with a ceiling that high.0
