Beating renewal price - esure renewal quote genuinely the cheapest ??

Every year since I passed my test I have changed car insurance provider in order to save money off my renewal price.
Around 3 years ago I moved to esure (as they were the best price that year). Since then the renewal price they have provided has been significantly lower than any other car insurance provider, which I found a bit of a shock.
I've just had the renewal through in the last few days and the price quoted with no claims protection is £178.00. I got some quotes last week on just one comparison site and the cheapest was around £250.00 (and that was with esure).
Has anyone come across this? - I find it unusual to say the least.

I've been with Admiral for years because they keep coming up cheapest for me. (Well, their renewal quote is always atrocious, but the price they'd offer me as a new customer via comparison sites is much better, and they agree to match it.)0
