Need advice on Revolut card payment issue

Hi all, I’m after some advice on the following. I’ve used the Revolut currency card for our Florida holidays over the last couple of years. Yesterday a transaction appeared on my statement relating to a purchase in August 2016. Unbeknown to us the purchase had not been deducted at the time due to an error with Revolut’s systems but they have now come back 15 months later demanding payment in 7 days. Whilst the transaction looks legitimate can Revolut come back so long after to demand payment or is there a time limit to these things? I’m really annoyed as we were using this type of card as a way of budgeting our spending and the level of customer service from Revolut in trying to understand what has happened has been atrocious. Any advice is most welcome.

The time limit is 6 years. You admit you owe the money, pay it.

Whilst Revolut is entitled to the money it is owed by you, it is unreasonable of it to demand the money in such a short timescale so long after it should have demanded the money.

Contact Revolut, offer to pay it the money but dictate the timescale in which you will make payment.

Then close your account with Revolut.

How much was the purchase? In effect, you've had a free loan for sixteen months. If it's not easy to repay right away, request more time.

Be very careful taking this advice, Revolut will likely either put an Arrangement to Pay marker on your credit files or a default. Both will cause you future credit issues.

Best thing to do is either pay it off from the card when you can afford it or ballence transfer it to a zero/low apr card or take out a bank loan/overdraft to pay it if the transaction amount is high.

I agree with you, it sucks right before Christmas. More likely to have been the retailer than the credit card company.

For clarification, Revolut is a pre-paid debit card (not a credit card), should that make any difference to the situation and how it might be handled or resolved.

This is covered by Section 17 of their General Terms of Service.
