Hi long story but need advice
Over 7 years ago I went behind with rent and council tax through ex husband not paying, he then left me with that debt. With help from mum and dad these were all payed off.
I have never taken any credit cards, hp so at the present moment I am as far as possible know owe no money to anyone.
But in the last week my mum has been getting texts and phone calls asking for ME to call them back. I have not lived at my parents house for over 10 years so why phone her number. Different surname.
Have read that this is a scam has anyone heard of this company and any advice to get calls stopped from Lowell.
Thanks

Lowells are a debt collection agency. Quite a nasty one by all accounts.
The have purchased a debt they believe is yours.
The first thing to do is check your credit files. Your ex may have taken out more credit in your name.2.88 kWp System, SE Facing, 30 Degree Pitch, 12 x 240W Conergy Panels, Samil Solar River Inverter, Havant, Hampshire. Installed July 2012, acquired by me on purchase of house in August 20170 -
Are they a nasty one? They are a debt purchasing company and chase people for old debts, and opinion seems divided about such companies - there are plenty of posts from people who have dealt with lowell and replies on what to do - usually a prove-it letter.
You say calls and texts, so no letters? That does not mean they have your mothers address, especially as it looks like a mobile number. They could be writing to old addresses of yours, so check all three CRA's as suggested.0 -
Sounds like an old debt, that may somehow be linked to you.
You do not have to respond to calls and texts, you only need respond to a letter, sounds like a fishing trip to me, actually, Lowell are pretty easy to deal with, as long as you keep everything in writing, never phone them.
Checking your credit files for a potential debt from 10 years ago, may not be productive, as they only keep records for 6 years.
If you want to find out what this is about, next time they ring, get the reference number off them, you can then use this to log in to that debts details on there website.
If your details allow you access, then the account is in your name, if your details are incorrect, chances are its someone elses debt.
You can then take appropriate action.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Phoning your mum's nothing. Can't remember which company, but one wrote to my mum's two next door neighbours trying to trace my sister.0

Thanks for your replies. Mum and dad have not received any letters, only a couple of texts and 2 phone calls with a recorded message. I have lived in my house since 2008.
I will check my credit report as suggested.
Thanks again.0
