but i didnt know what it was and no idea i didnt have to have it.is this normal for them?

Your argument lacks credibility. There is unlikely to be any evidence to back up your allegation. So, the response to such a weak complaint seems logical.

A 2000 sale would have had an initial illustration issued by the agent. Followed up in the post from the provider with the cancellation rights. Followed up by a policy schedule in a separate post. That was nearly 20 years ago, so its more likely you have forgotten than it not being done.
!should i just carry on and give them a certain amount of time before i go to the ombudsman?

How do you think the ombudsman will help you?

L&G only retailed regular premium MPPI. That type of PPI sees most complaints rejected. Your complaint reasons are just about the weakest ones going and the L&G response seems correct on those particular points.
    help,im really stressing over this!

You should not be stressing. Its not a matter of life or death. Its a complaint about a sale of a policy nearly 20 years ago. A type of policy that sees most complaints rejected. So, the odds of success were against you and you have nothing to lose. So, it should not be creating any stress.

Do you have any better complaint reasons? Something with a bit more substance?
Is it even MPPI? L&G did MPPI but they were more commonly known for life assurance in that period.

If its for a friend why are you stressing

You have been given advice that your case is weak so either take it forward....or dont. Your choice or your 'friend'

at the end of the day, most MPPI sales arranged by mortgage brokers fail. Whilst some did do missales, they were mostly single premium MPPI which is bad and nearly always upheld. A bad product sold by bad people. However, regular premium MPPI can still be bought today. Unlike all the bad types of PPI.

The reasons for this complaint are weak. These reasons rarely succeed by themselves. Someone may use them in a complaint and get paid out but it is usually for another failure or an auto-payout. Not these reasons. They are reasons that are not able to be proven. If it was a bank, then the chance of auto-payout is higher. However, this was arranged by a mortgage broker and they tend to have better audit trails than the banks and as they only retail the better form of PPI, they have less "product" issues.

Your friend can take it to the FOS. None of us here can say whether it will succeed or not as we dont have access to the information available. We only have what you tell us and that does not look strong enough for a successful complaint.
