My 1st post, hope it is a good one.
My local John Lewis (Aberdeen) has the Nikon D70 reduced to £629.00.
If you apply via Nikon's web site you also qualify for a cashback of £100.00

to price match for the £100 cashback the Nikon site says UK models only. But I'm not sure if this is legal under the treaty of Rome. Ebuyer and the camera sold via the channel islands are usually sourced in the EU (France and Germany) so Nikon might barf at this. Worth checking with trading standards I think the Nickon offer for cash back run until end of May.
Thanks for the post.Seth.0 -

They don't seem to have the deal on the John Lewis website . They only have the kit with the 18-70mm lens for £749. Do you know whether it was for the body only or not? If it is then you can get it for £579.99 at cameras2u.com , but it only qualifies for £50 cashback.
My husband has the D70 + 18-70mm lens and is very impressed with it so far
Same old same old since 20080 -
Yes it does have an 18/70 lens included in the price.
They also have a small display ticket saying you can get the cash back fron Nikon via the web site.Val

So you can your £100 back for a longer period.
Of you can buy from Pixmania for under £600 for camera lens and get a 2 year warranty.

Hi
I spoke to John Lewis who confirmed they had sold a D70 at £629, however they said it was a price promise. Any idea who else is selling it at £629? If I can find this out John Lewis will match the price!!0 -

£524 inc vat for the body only body with lens a few posts down...Seth.0 -
JL will not match internet prices, only high street. Also the camera from Pixmania is European stock so does not qualify for the cashback offer from Nikon.0

Your link is for the body only whereas jiltyjade is referring to the model with the 18-70mm lens which is £579

My mistake thanks for pointing this out.
I noticed that you can order in store and collect goods in store; you can also order by phone and collect in store...
"The Pixmania pick-up store allows you to directly purchase a selection of products in store. Accessories and consumables such as batteries, memory cards, memory card readers, miniDVs… you can also get advice on Pixmania’s wide range of products. The service charges that you pay when receiving delivery at the pick-up store not only includes the transportation fee from our warehouse but also management and service fees (more info). All orders shall be placed on-line either via our web site www.pixmania.co.uk or by our customer helpline at 08700 118 117 (national rate). However, a PC is provided at the PICK-UP STORE premises for your ordering convenience and our staff are able to place orders for you as well."
Jessops / JL might price match? Worth a punt?
Called Nikon UK and mailed them questions about the legality of discriminating EU and UK stock. No firm reply logged it with trading standards in Hammersmith where I live and Pixmania (French company) trading in Hammersmith.
The Nikon chap said I needed an Invoice from the UK and part of the quick start guide as it stated in the T&C of the offer.
I'm not sure if they are allowed to do this under the treaty of Rome as this behaviour seems to prevent the free movement of goods and services with the EU by introducing pricing hurdles...
I'll see what trading standards say...Seth.0 -
I don't think its price discrimination per se, but a country specific promotion. It has a start date and a stop date, so its not an indirect price discrimination (i.e. a way to get round the price discrimination rules). I don't think there is anything in EU laws against country specific promotions."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0
