O/S Daily Saturday 25th November 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

I’m feeling a bit sorry for myself today. Yesterday morning I fell over in the street and badly cut and grazed my knee and hand. I seem to have somehow managed to damage the muscles in my side. I can hardly walk at the moment which is most frustrating. I kept waking up in pain during the night as well. It could have been worse though, nothing is broken and I’m sure it will soon heal. I think my pride was hurt as much as anything because it was right near a queue of people waiting at a bus stop.

Today will be mostly spent on the sofa with a book or watching a bit of tv. It’s certainly more comfortable if I keep the leg straight, and it is really cold out as well so I don’t need much encouragement to stay in the warm.

My niece was really good and when she came back from doing her shopping cooked me a meal before she went home and brought some of my favourite chocolates back for me. She is a thoughtful girl and goes out of her way to be kind to people.

I’m going to go and get some more tea as the one I’ve got here has gone cold.

Have a good Saturday everyone whatever you are doing.

Hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off, take it steady x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH and myself enjoying first cuppas of the day, I'll be heading to the SM first thing, as the normal food shopping didn't get done yesterday due to myself and DH going xmas shopping, was really pleased and managed to break the back of it, I just have 1 x voucher to get for the outlaws, and some bits for our boys - then I'm done. We drove to the next town which has a nice selection of shops and I knew where I wanted to go as I'd been researching online who had what at what price, so makes everything easier. Spent a fair bit though, but I'm virtually finished, I think when you spend on bits as you go along you can soon overspend as you don't think of £10 or £20 here and there is very much iyswim. I also benefited from the 3 for 2 offer in the big pharmacy shop - that saved me over £60! Plus I got double points etc.
We did the shopping then went to next town along, had lunch out which was an additional spend but not too expensive and enjoyed by us both, then visited DH's grandad who I'm pleased to say was brighter yesterday than we've seen him for several months.

Dinner last night was takeaway pizza's another expense, but I'm now organising a menu and shopping list, I'll be heading to the SM shortly.

Keep safe and well x

Had my dentist appointment yesterday. I was wound up for days and spent yesterday morning thinking “it'll all be over in 3 hours......2 hours.....1 hour – better leave now so I'm not late”. Went in and all they did was take more moulds! Don't know why they need so many of the same thing but I was a bit miffed then looked on the bright side – I could eat pizza for lunch :D I have to go back in two weeks, then again to have the teeth taken out. At least I won't panic before the next appointment, now that I know they're not actually going to do anything to my teeth. Will save the panicking for the appointment after that.

I've had the beginning of a cold for about a week, it just hung around being annoying then kicked in properly last night. I think I relaxed after my appointment and it snuck in all at once, lol. I ache all over, have a woolly head and a spectacular cough, a couple of times I thought my lungs were going to turn inside out or something :D I'm going to wrap up warm and take it easy today.

• Morning all.

Hugs to Holly and Becky and anyone else in need.
Early start here as the engineer is coming to look at the engine in the boat, ouch, big money floating out the windows I expect.

The standard boaters joke is that boat stands for Bung On Another Thousand.

It's frosty this morning so I'm layered up, it will be colder when the work is being done and the doors will be wide open.

Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester
Chin up, Titus out.
• Morning folks and thanks HOLLY. Ouch that sounded a nasty tumble. Have a lazy day on the sofa and recuperate.

Well it was like looking out on the Arctic wastes when I peeped through the blind at 6.30!! Ok that might be a slight exaggeration but we got the promised snow in the night. Not a vast amount but there is a good covering. Most unusual to get snow before November is out.

No rigid plans for today but I had planned on the bus to town as I want to pop into M & S but unless the snow melts I won't be going anywhere! I also want to go through all my boxes of Xmas gifts and make sure the contents tally with my list. I have big boxes of stuff stashed away everywhere away from the prying eyes of the DGDs when they stay over.

When I am brave enough to venture into the cold garage I will have a quick dive into the freezer and see what today's eats will be.

Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for those who want/need them. Take care xx

There are 2 threads!

Hope all goes well RR, I had the kitchen done last year, so much mess and chaos but worth it in the end, good luck!
Ouch Holly, look after yourself. Don't sit for too long or you'll stiffen right up.
Hope Becky got home dumpling, enjoy your weekend.
How's your DM Gers?

It's really cold and frosty this morning, I was watching my friends children last night and had to get Mr friend to walk me across the road at about midnight as it was sheet ice! Don't think I'll venture out today, don't need anything and will take the opportunity to sort and wrap all the christmas presents.

White wash to go on when I've had a shower, hoovered around last night so just need to dust and do the bathrooms.

Have a good weekend. Take care. XX

Good morning everyone :hello:

I didn't get too much sleep last night as Becky was home for the night and she couldn't sleep at all. We came down and had a cup of tea at 3.30am. Eventually her brain decided to give in and she went back to bed and is fast asleep now. We are taking her back to the hospital at 6pm so hopefully she will wake up in time to go into town. She wants her hair cut and as she wears it very short, Steve is going to take her to a barbers.

I had a major sort out of my wardrobe and got rid of five bags of clothes. I still have more to sort out but it is looking a lot better in there now and I have rediscovered some treasured bits of clothing. Next will be to sort out my handbag collection. Lilly will help me do this as she is great at organizing. Steve is going to put the fans and wrapped Christmas presents into the attic so we will have some room to move around in our bedroom too.

Hotdogs for tea as we need something quick and easy before we take Becky back. I am hoping for a cooked breakfast as well this morning. I will flutter my eyelashes at Steve :).

Ouch Holly, take it easy today won't you. Hope you feel a lot better soon xx
Hester, I really hope the engineer doesn't charge you too much.
TravellingAbuela, I can't believe you have snow already. It make me feel a bit panicky :eek:.
Hope your cold goes soon Tru, and well done for getting to the dentist and thank goodness it wasn't as bad as you had thought. My next appointment is on the 1st December and I am already fretting :o.
Gers, hope your lovely DM is feeling a lot better today x

Well, I am off to drop heavy hints about bacon and eggs so I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning all.

Cold and frosty in Glasgow too though no snow. Unusually there was snow where I live yesterday, first time in years. My car is iced up as DM lives on the edge of the river, it’ll need de-iced soon.

DM is coughing like an old engine, a lot of decoking going on. Her cold has gone leaving this cough and weakness. I may not get home today after all though I must go tomorrow.

The anticipated ‘kick off’ at work has happened, the next few days will be interesting.

HH - sorry to hear about your fall, it’s always a shock. I hope your graze is clean and that your aches soon go. Even if you find walking difficult please at least move your leg around!

Happy Saturday to everyone.

Good morning

Really icy here too and don't plan to venture out far the last thing I need right now is a hip fracture. Really hoping the predictions of a bad winter are wrong but its early for this level of ice and snow.

HH you poor love that sounds really sore. Calls for a day of spoiling yourself by the sound of it and if it stays bad you need to get to the doctors

I had a lovely dinner last night inspired by a dish in one of my favourite pubs :D I had a platter with prawns, cockles, crab pate, scampi, tartar and cocktail sauce and some melba toast ....it was lush :j might do a meat based platter next week as I have most of the required in the freezer. Picky eating is my kind of eating so need to plan some more platter combos. Tonight I'm thinking fish and chips but that could change.

Today I have James Martin to gaze at and start the weekend well soon then my befriending call. After that I will crack on with some stuff from my master to list.

Dumpling hope you enjoy your day with Becky
Tru get well soon love sounds like you need a spoil me day too

Enjoy your weekend all:A
• Good Morning chums and a frosty but sunny start to the day here in north Kent .I shall be staying indoors though as I hate the shops at this time of the year and anything I need I am sure I can do without until its a bit quieter .

So today I shall be watching some catch up TV, and feet up and some knitting

Next week will be a busy one so I shall make the most of a peaceful day indoors .

I am making some fishcakes today ,some for lunch and some for the freezer and its my fishy week over :) used up quite a bit and really enjoyed it,made a nice change from meat based meals and made a bit more room in the freezer.

Holly/H that sounds really painful and I agree with Nelski definitely a day for spoiling yourself and a duvet on the sofa sounds a brilliant way to do it .

Right as its nippy its a porridge breakfast for me I have been up since 6.30 so am in need of something warm inside of me now.
I will grate some apples into it and just a sprinkle of cinnamon on top

have a good day chums and keep warm if you can

JackieO xx
