Car warranty question

Last year I bought a Hyundai I10 (Brand new) from a local garage which is not a Hyundai main dealer. I have a problem with the parcel shelf which needs replacing. The garage is saying its a warranty item and that I'll have to take the car to the Hyundai main dealer to get it replaced. Would I be correct in thinking that they should replace the parcel shelf as I bought the car from them rather than have to drive about 15 miles out of my way to visit the Hyundai dealership?

Whilst your contract is with them for any faults the warranty isn't. They cannot do warranty work as they're not an authorised dealership. Whilst they have a duty to you they only have to comply with CRA which means that as it is over 6 months old you would have to prove the fault was there at manufacture and that will be a pain in the backside to go through. Whilst I understand it is a bit of a pain to go 15 miles out of your way in the long run it would be the easiest solution with the least headaches and stress to go to a dealer and get it done under the warranty compared to getting it resolved under Consumer Rights with who you bought it from. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. When a car has a manufacturers warranty you can go to any main dealer for warranty work.0

A Hyundai main dealer. They didn't buy it from a Hyundai main dealer. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
The only thing that strikes me as being a bit strange is why would a "local garage" who wasn't a Hyundai main dealer be selling a brand new Hyundai car?
Could it possibly be a grey import and not be covered by the manufacturers warranty?0 -

They are legally obliged to sort any issues which arise which would be covered under the Consumer Rights Act.
Something as trivial as a "problem with the parcel shelf" after a year is not a CRA-scale problem. Even if it was, then they are addressing it by pointing to the manufacturer's warranty which should replace it.
As far as the garage goes - it's a car, for the love of gawd. It's intended for travelling from A to B. It's fifteen miles (round trip...?) to the main dealer, not the dark side of the flamin' moon...0
