Win 10 on Groupon

Groupon selling windows 10 pro for £17.99. Seems to be the real deal, licensed copy. I recently upgraded my desktop from Vista to Win7, with a slightly iffy registration code, but it seems to be ok. My question is, would it be worth a further upgrade to Win 10? I have an older Medion desktop with core2duo and 500Gig hard drive, plenty of ram, but 32bit. Works fine at the moment, for my requirements anyway, but of course, win10 would have a longer life and ought to be an all round better system. I'd be interested in opinions, retired now, so can't ask around at work. Thanks....

That first link is so dodgy.. Authorised Reseller, 5 star seller err they have zero feedback LOL
Also the exact same pictures as a seller with their feedback dropping to 90%

Description says dont leave negative they refund instantly. Not really something a legit seller would put.

Yeh, just read it fully. It does sound dodgy, but for £1.50 I'd take the gamble ;)

You need to make sure that your current system has drivers for win 10. Otherwise you will not get it working very well.

Judging by the CPU, I very much doubt that there are drivers for the chipset. I have a X48 Core2 Quad system and that has no drivers available for Win 10. I do not think there are any for the graphics card either. nVidia does not update for anything higher than Win 7 or 8 for my GPU. Intel certainly do not. I cannot even get Win 10 drivers for Intel USB 3.0 for a Z77 chipset.

If I was you I would do a backup/image of the drive and then maybe attempt an upgrade to win 10. If that fails then restore the image. Chances are it will not work or not work well.

Are you sure? Win 10 will install on tablets with much lower spec CPUs.
Had no issues with a 12 year old AMD 5200 dual core.

Using microsoft default drivers maybe, but without manufacturers drivers things are not working efficiently. If you look at device manager I bet the drivers are by microsoft rather than the chipset maker.

There are many reports on the web of people not being able to find drivers for older hardware, it is certainly not unique. It's all part of the forced upgrade cycle, products may be sufficient for most people's usage for many years but hardware makers do not want that so prevent products being used for more than a couple of operating system upgrades.

That's not Win 10 Pro though. (Might work if you're currently on Win 7 Pro, but not if you're on Win 7 Home or Win 10 Home). :)
