Oh and you may be pleased to know that they left a very large crate of alcohol which we may have actually accidentally put in our kitchen cupboard. They asked of its whereabouts once, we denied any knowledge and they never asked again. Think we all knew the elephant in the room was saying we were entitled to it!0

You're an "involuntary ballee" you better take advice on this because you can't just dispose of it as you see fit.
There are laws that you need to follow, this doesn't just affect landlords as some one suggested but anyone who has found themselves in possession of someone else's property.
