Does a Company has a right to obtain personal Data on a consumer?

Got an email from a company stating they obtain land registry records to obtain details of the owners of my property without my consent which I feel is like a breach of my data privacy.

Does the company have the right to do this? If so what circumstances company must meet before doing this?

Or has the company broken any law?

Yes it's publicly accessible. Anyone (even me) can get that information.

It's not personal data, it's information in the public domain.


However if they have contacted the owner of the property about you that may be a different matter depending on what was said.

How does that make any difference? It is publically available information that anyone can access it is not personal data that needs protecting by the DPA.

Also if they are looking into the owners of your property then either it is not your property, so not your data they accessed anyway but the owners (and I’d assume your landlord) or you do own it but have lied about it and they wanted actual proof either way.
