Cat c car met with an accident

Hi
As a result of an accident 6 months ago my car was cat c written off.(not my fault).
However I had bought back my car and had reinsured as fully comp.
Then this morning I met with an accident and looks like it's my fault...
My car suffered damage to bumper. When contacted local body shop they said they could fix it for couple of hundred pounds....
What should I do?
I don't want to lose the only family car with 3 kids around and got a holiday coming up so got no time to look for another car.

What happens to my cat c valuation now? Quick response is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for quick reply.
Long story short, due to comp policy I got insurance company wanted to estimate the damage and inspected the car.
What I don't want to happen now is ins company will come back and say the car is written off again?awkward and don't want to keep the car...
But due to upcoming holiday etc don't want to go through the pain of buying another car....
    Hope you got my point.
So can I call ins company and tell them that I get it fixed locally? Any other options?

Are you wanting to claim off your policy for this new damage? (Is it worth paying your excess over??)

If they write it off then you can still buy it back if you want to,
  • You can choose to get it fixed without making a claim if that is what you mean? or you can choose to make a claim and get your vehicle fixed either at their insurer's chosen repairer or you a repairer of your own choosing.

If the insurer decides that your vehicle is beyond economical repair what they may do is offer you the value of your vehicle and say if you want to get it repaired then it is at your own expense(minus the money you have offered obvs).

Will there be a problem if I drive a double written off cat c car?
As my car is not worth much it's going to be a write off again.
As damage is minor is it wise to just get it repaired locally? My car is only worth £1.5k...

There won't be a problem as long as it's written off as cat c (or d) - you will be able to keep it.

But have you worked out if it's cost effective to make another claim? Apart from your excess to pay this extra claim in your history will make future premiums expensive (do dummy quotes with one theb two claims in your history to see what difference it makes). If a third party is involved then this is all academic (if it was your fault of course), and if repairs are less than your excess you may as well claim.

You don't say if you have any NCD to lose over making a second claim, and this may also have a bearing on the cost effectiveness of claiming

Today's accident also involves another car so they're claiming on my insurance anyways... So yes my 10 year NCD..... Not sure what's going to happen...

If your NCD isn't protected you will probably have nil or 1 year at renewal after 2 fault claims in the one policy year.

Check your policy wording - but normally NCD deductions are made from a max of 5 years

It's protected.... Also I had renewed policy end of September after the first not at fault accident early this year.
This year has been a nightmare...

So Quentin, as you seemed to be experienced on this, is it OK to drive a twice written off cat c car? Any pit falls?
    Thanks
