Hi I’ve just bought a new oak dining table and chairs from a well known oak furniture store (no veneer in here) . Can anybody help with whether to wax or oil it, and which type of either should I buy. Thanks in advance.

Any generic wax will do no need to buy their magic sapwood wax.0

Try this, you wouldn't be disappointed - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ronseal-CRPBWGMO4-Medium-Refined-Beeswax/dp/B002MXLCZK/
I used it on a second hand oak dining table that I purchased from gumtree. Don't.
Or at least, don't do it very often (once a year is more than enough). You certainly don't need to be using wax/polish every week - it results in a residue build up which actually traps dust and makes it harder to keep clean.
A light dusting as required is all that's needed. No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -

If its already waxed you cannot oil it. Clear wax from Liberon or others will be as good or better than their own and likely to be cheaper.0 -
Be aware that no veneer in here have precise requirements that you must follow for waxing if you want to fall back on their guarantees or you are very much on your own.0
