I originally ordered a long time ago (over a month) and decided enough was enough, so sent an email to every reciepient available under the "ADV" domanin. It read like this:
PLEASE FORWARD TO RELEVANT DEPARTMENT:
Good Morning,
I am writing this email, the 6th one I do believe, in querying as to WHERE MY DVD'S ARE?
I placed the order originally on the 21st of January and it is now the 25th of February, OVER A MONTH!
I have received only part of my order but am still waiting on sever DVD's. Some of these were intended as gifts for others, but I have now had to source alternatives. You seemed to have taken payment for these but not bothered to ship half the order! I would like to know what you will do about this and once again, when I can expect to recieve them. I placed an order with you believing I would recieve good service, but instead have recieved nothing but silence.
If you could take the time to bother responding it would be nice. I will assume that after 3 days of "no-reply" that you simply do not care and I will be proceeding to recover my money and to also take this matter further.
I trust you understand my complaint and I EXPECT A REPLY WITHIN 24 HOURS!!!0 -
So, after say about 3 days I got a reply which read as so:
Hello <name>
This order will be shipped out directly from the distribution centre at SonyDADC today, before the network closes down.
This is the last you will hear from the last three remaining employees here at ADV Films in the UK, since we are all unemployed from this Saturday. I do hope that the rest of your order finds its way to you, but since you paid less per disc than it cost to make them, even if you don't get the rest of the order, you still got the first half of your order for bargain prices. You were one of hundreds of fans who showed up to buy from us only when it was too late to save the company. If everyone had bought these discs at retail prices, we would still be open and have jobs.
If fans only want to pay one pound for a DVD, then the remaining anime companies in the UK will also close in the next two years, more of our colleagues will be unemployed, and fans will have to return to importing from the US, Australia and Japan.
Goodbye.

So I felt bad, very bad. But I had placed the order and they took my money. It is business. Anyway, I have recieved the package just now, checked the contents, and two DVD's are still not there! I can not be bothered trying to get them now. Even though they were hard ones to get hold of. Oh well.
Bye Bye ADV, we will miss you!0 -

Normally retails 3 times the price.
anime can be so expensive, esp the books and dvds.
good post
Tesco's also seem to have "Ghost in the Shell" for £3.00 in store.
Possibly a bit mainstream for this thread....Wins so far this year: It's been a quiet year so far0 -

My mother and I've used www.up1.co.uk before, and they've been great. They delivered quickly, packed the dvds well and were helpful when I phoned them (I think it was even outside of office hours!)
If you're buying imported Region 1 stuff, they've often discounted their normal list price in GBP to reflect the current exchange rate to the USD (this is generally marked against each imported item in their catalogue as a percentage off the price), unlike most anime import sites seem to do where they just change the dollar sign to pounds and not reduce the number!
My brother's been using: http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/main/ for Region 1 DVDs. They currently have a 40% off ADV sale and rather a lot of stuff on clearance. I'm not sure how much the postage costs are, but he and most of his friends at his anime society buy from there.0 -
Thanks for that Fuchia_a, didnt know whether to trust it, but will now place some orders. Need some more Anime to watch.0
