After finding myself engrossed in The Count of Monte Cristo, I decided to take a break and go on the computer. To my surprise, I found the longest Find-DVD watchlist email ever.

In a nutshell, HMV have restarted the sale this thread got started with. Chrono Crusade, Elfen Lied, Evangelion, Full Metal Panic, Hellsing... Everything linked to in the first few posts of this thread, all for the same £5.99 prices.

There's also been some very nice additions:

    Excel Saga: Volume 1 - £2.99
    Excel Saga: Volume 2 - £2.99

    Excel Saga: Volume 3 - £2.99
    Excel Saga: Volume 4 - £2.99
    Excel Saga: Volume 5 - £2.99
    Excel Saga: Volume 6 - £2.99

^ The ADV Excel Saga license is up. It's now or never if you want R2 copies of Excel Saga.

    Tekkonkinkreet - £4.99

    Paprika - £4.99

    Bleach: 1:1 - £9.99

Also, I noticed this when searching for more HMV anime goodies:

Afro Samurai: Bravo Edition - £4.99

^ I'm not sure if it's the same bravo edition Amazon once exclusively sold...
  • Excel Saga is so worth it!

    Absolutely mad Anime Series!

    I already have Vol. 1, 3, 4 & 6, so I picked up the remaining 2. :-)

Also, I picked up Paprika and Tekkonkinkreet. The other 2 I linked to were tempting, but I want to wait for the 1:1 + 1:2 Bleach collection and quite like the look of the more expensive Afro Samurai set.
  • I watched Bleach up until 120 ish. Got slightly bored of it then. I am not keen on series that just keep on going and going and going ...

Bleach was ruined by the fillers... It was a truly excellent series up to the end of the Soul Society arc (late 60's), which was followed by a year of fillers. Once the fillers had ended, the art/animation quality had dropped by a significant amount, blood had been changed to spit and it was only a matter of time before the fillers returned.

Naruto and Bleach were both once highlights of my week. Both anime series are now dead in my mind.
  • Slightly bitter there then!

Totally agree though. My mates love Bleach, but they cant see how much it has gone down the pan. Stick to the good old 26 eps is what I say. Fullmetal Alchemist was long enough lol.

I'm far more bitter about Naruto than Bleach.

At episode 135 (at around the same time Bleach entered a 1 year filler break), Naruto entered a forced 2 year filler period. The poor Naruto fans who started the series before the fillers were forced to endure watching postmen ninja, cooking ninja and a lot of other ingenious stories while they waited for the proper show to return.

After 2 years, news FINALLY leaked out about a new series starting from episode 1 called Naruto: Shippuuden (Hurricane Chronicles). The long suffering fans rejoiced at this news, believing their favourite show would finally be returning to greatness. Hopes were raised significantly higher by the episode 1+2 special of Shippuuden, the first ten minutes of it being near enough movie quality, showing a scene that took place way beyond where the anime was at. However, the happiness soon faded when the episodes that followed went at a 1-1.5 manga chapter per episode pace, meaning each episode had a huge amount of the ingenious filler shown during the 2 year filler hell, and the art/animation dropped to filler level at best.

Also, while Naruto hating, Manga Ent. have done their very best to screw up the DVD releases on our shores, messing up the subtitles badly or only using dubtitles.
  • Oh dear, I have never been into Naruto, my friend is all about One Piece at the moment, but never bothered watching that either. I am watching Ouran High School Host Club, which is ... odd ... to say the least.

Y'know, it seems only you have re-found this thread since a mod moved it. Did you get an email telling you someone had posted in it?

I'm currently *trying* to watch Gilgamesh after I got 5/7 volumes from the recent ADV clearance. I've watched the first 4 volumes so far. It's the worst series I've watched in a long time, the animation in particular being very poor.
  • I was nto told it had been moved. Quite frankly it is bad. We should ask for a dedicated section! LOL. Anyway, got some banter from the whole ADV dynasty.
