Try to enforce stuff like that and you will end up with threads on multiple tracks.

why not go all the way and enforce one thread per user.

look at the land reg thread a complete mess as predicted.
  • I vote no. There have been a number of queries I've had which I've found answers to by searching for previous threads on the same subject. If everyone was forced to have a single thread (probably named something like 'my house sale') it would make searching a lot more awkward.
  • Show a list of all the threads the OP has started beneath the first post in every thread. Will make it easier to moderate, and peer pressure on those with threadarrhoea should help curb the problem.
  • I've voted yes, my only reservation would be that as posts get longer and onto multiple pages less people will be willing to read from the start and either ignore it or chip in without understanding the full story (which I know can and does happen anyway).

No, because I've tried to do that before - not just on here - but people will always read and reply to the first post, regardless of what has evolved in the thread.

No because of what coconut says, threads would get too long and unwieldy.

Let’s say the thread gets to three pages and the title is “completion date” and then they have a question about gas bill and meter reading. The people who are “experts” (or opinionated) on completion dates and reading the thread may know nothing about gas bills and meters, and anyone reading the forum who knows about meter reading but nothing about completion dates will have any reason to jump into the thread and go to the third page.

I think this misses the original point that KS was trying to make. Regarding numerous threads which are started that are inter related. With pertinent information being dribbled out. No one is questioning the validity of a totally unrelated question.

The answer is most likely to self police. Where noted. To inform others and not exacerbate the situation by continuing to post.
  • Maybe newbies like myself (hello again) are not aware of the politics of the forum. I certainly didn't expect !!!!!iness but there you go.

New threads on the same subject? Well, I am sorry that my first thread asked if a second valuation was normal but maybe somebody else was wondering the same thing and opened the thread. My second thread 'mortgage survey done last', well maybe somebody related to that.

jeez, might just go on my wife's mums net and get a nicer responce.

You were the 'victim' of something I'd been mulling over for a few days and although the catalyst at that time; you weren't intended as a real target for a discussion likely to result in nothing but the expulsion of a little hot air, on the evening of a hard working day...!

With only five, you are a thread starting amateur compared to others. :D

If that was the point the OP was trying to make it didn't come across that way. To me, and based on the responses on this thread to other people to, it read as a suggestion that ALL queries regarding a particular house sale/purchase should be contained in a single thread.
