Should we ask for the adoption of a restriction popular on other forums I visit where you are allowed one thread for your case?

If you have a house sale, house purchase, rental issue you open one thread and you conduct all your business in that thread? It means members can see how a case evolves and not have to duplicate previous help.

Yes, I'm sad, but I actually counted and one member opened twenty-three threads for questions on the same house purchase.

Are you trying to stop people from making pointless threads (by making a pointless thread?) Can’t help but point out the irony here ;).

Their threads aren't pointless, but if they added to previous threads, a bigger picture would emerge which would be easier to follow.

    Mine, yep, totally pointless... :D

How could such a restriction be imposed though. Unless the board moderators are more pro-active in merging.
  • Just because of one incident?

Sometimes things can be a bit confusing - but, on balance, it may be that if someone does this they are raising one aspect on one thread and feel it's resolved as best they can/queries on it answered.

Then another aspect they hadnt anticipated comes up and that is a different question (if sometimes on the same overall matter).

    One? Think again.
  • Voted Yes, but I think it would require quite a bit more work from mods.

I too find it annoying when posters open multipe threads, especially when info in the first is relevant to the 2nd but not included.

So yes - makes perfect sense to combine them.

But... it'll never be enforced so, yes, this is a pointless thread!

Single threads wouldn't be very effective in getting multiple questions answered because people wouldn't know the questions until they clicked in the thread. E.g. in your example you mention a rental and a house purchase, those are two very different areas with many people having expertise in one or the other. Having separate threads - clearly titled - for those two issues, for example, ensures the questions get answered more efficiently by the most knowledgeable posters in that topic.
I hesitate to start a debate but hey.....

If the same poster has a rental query and a purchase query, chances are at some point there'll be overlap: when to serve notice; when /how to get rental deposit back iin time for purchase; whether on electoral roll at rental for mortgage credit check. Almost always something.

If all the info is visible upfront, it's quicker & easier to advise, as well as that advice being more releant/accurate
