Car insurance - not giving no claims (possibly due to bogus claim).

A week or so ago a friend received paperwork through from their insurers saying basically someone had claimed they were involved in a RTC/I/A (the final word was either incident, accident or collision, i can't remember which he said).
Anyway this was all news to him. He checked his car over & there was no damage to it so he tried calling insurance but couldn't get them so emailed to say he knew nothing about it & for them to re-contact him if they need to speak (no attempt made so far). It's a sports car and he's wondering if maybe cloned plates or something but hasn't seen it around in the area so who knows.
Anyway the renewal came through yesterday & he was telling me how the no claims discount is set at 0 - probably due to this claim.
With only a few weeks left until renewal date is that correct - that if someone just says you've been in an accident but you haven't then you lose your no claims? Seems very wrong?
I've told him to get on the phone to them pronto & see what the situation is but just seemed wrong to go on the word of someone like that?

If a claim is made against your policy then your NCD is (temporarily) impacted irrespective of whether the claim is from the policyholder or a third party until the claim is resolved
If it isn't resolved by the renewal date, then he could try explaining the situation to his chosen insurer and see if they will amend the premium in the event the NCD is reinstated (and refund any difference due) - if they agree then get it confirmed back in writing.0 -
The claim is still open. Eventually, it will be closed, and his NCB will be back.
But he really needs to get in proper contact with his insurer asap, not a half-arsed attempt to call then a single email...0 -

The question was over the 4 weeks or whatever it is remaining between now & renewal date as it's likely the current insurers will be ditched for another.
Their opening times are a bit of a nuisance though - 8am-6pm. Not good for people who do long hours really. Anyway i've told him to try see if he can get a break at 8am or as close to 8am as possible to call.0 -

Dinner break is 30 minutes. Ok this gives you more chance but the above can still apply.
So for all these office workers who get a nice 1 hour slot or a 1.5 hour slot for their dinner who have time to go do their weekly shop on their dinner that's all wonderful, but for those of us who don't get that it can be pretty difficult when you need to call somewhere that you're likely to end up on hold.
I've been known to take all week to try and get in touch with a company before today. Call on my break, leave on speakerphone, break time over & i need to hang up. Call on dinner, get put in a queue, dinner time over so need to hang up. Repeat on Tuesday, repeat on Wednesday, finally get through on Thursday.
So no, it's not "an excuse" it's a fact - it can be very difficult.
"Make time"? Yeah nice .... sorry Mr Employer but i don't give a stuff about your break policy, i'm going to do my own thing.
As it was he got through. Apparently there's a witness involved & they're sending someone out to check damage.
There's no concern regards the damage since there is none.
What is a concern is whether there's someone with cloned plates knocking around.
Or whether it's some young lads 'having a laugh'.0
