Some seed help please?
Hi all,
My boyfriend has a large garden and would like to start growing some fruit/veg. I was going to get some seeds for Christmas which he could sow early in the year.
I've had a look online at what can be sowed and thought about what he eats anyway but I wondered if you guys could check my list and let me know the likelihood of success and how cheap and easy they are to grow.
We have pots, a shed, conservatory (for a warm spot) and the garden is sunk so a little sheltered.
I've got
Leeks
Aubergines
Peas
Beetroot
Chillis - we grew these indoor this year.
I thought I might get one of the bags to grow potatoes in. I don't want to over face him with seeds and it be a waste.
Any help would be appreciated

Chillis and aubergines really need to be in a greenhouse (or conservatory).
Buy leeks/onions as 'sets' (in the spring) rather than seeds.
Peas and beetroot will be fine - but you'll need something for the peas to climb up. Ditto beans, if he likes these.
I tried growing spuds in bags (seed potatoes, not little seeds) but the harvest wasn't really worth the effort. If the garden is big enough, I'd put the spuds into the ground.0 -
If he likes them the following grew very well for me last season:
courgette
summer squash
chard
I have grown peas in teh past and found it not worth the bother.
Problem with potatos in bags is that they need extra feeding to get to a decent size.
Chilli's will come to nothing unless grown inside in my opinion (I use a greenhouse).YNWA

Tell him to build magic money trees instead. It's what the Tories did....0

If you like them, courgettes. Easyish, and prolificMember of "Rubbish at Radishes" club0

Raspberries, blackberries, blackcurrants, gooseberries - good return for very little work.0

That's great, thanks for the advice guys.
I hadn't even thought about fruit, can they be planted around January or do they need better weather? Can they be left in pots if they can't go in the ground just yet?0 -
