I'm on AOL broadband silver and keep getting frequent line drops.
Aol 9.0, Windows XP
4 telephone sockets in house, all have filters on. PC not plugged into main socket.
Line speed test
Date13/10/07 17:56:31Speed Down468.21 Kbps ( 0.5 Mbps )Speed Up233.91 Kbps ( 0.2 Mbps )Port8095Serverspeedtest1.adslguide.org.uk
Is that a poor speed result ?
Before contacting AOL Tech help I wondered if anyone had any suggestions.

Can you provide your line stats, downstream attenuation, snr margin, sync rate ? - http://www.dslzoneuk.net/adsl_line_stats.php
See this page http://www.dslzoneuk.net/socket.php?type=html and try connecting to the test socket behind the faceplate and measure line stats again and see if you still get disconnections.
Your speeds not that bad for aol.
Do the disconnections occur at any time or in the evening?Keeping the pedants at bay - dot an i or cross a t only if you feel you really can't stop yourself:p0 -
Hi,
I recently faced this. iam using wireless. And i found out that it was clasing with neighbours wireless connection. To make sure it doesnt
Go to
- open Net work connections
- Right click on wireless network connectio
- click on properties
- click on wireless networks tabs
- Under the preffered networks list, make sure you have only the wanted connections. Sometimes other networks get registered and causes a problem.
This solution is if you are using wireless connection.££££££

Thanks for info. Can't see a way to do line stats test as my modem not in list (BT Voyager 190)
I will look at the test socket though. Although it does really suit me to keep PC near main socket.
PC mainly on daytime (9-6) so that is when we are noticing the disconnections. Sometimes I have the sound turned down so I'm sure there are some disconnects/reconnects I don't even notice. i.e it may occur whilst I'm reading one page and before I click another.
Found the aol forums there and noticed others with same problem but no magic solution.0
