Claim for PPI again ?

Would like some advice regarding PPI claim .
Contacted HSBC in 2013 regarding PPI cover taken out in 2005 when applying for mortgage.
HSBC rejected claim sending paperwork which I had signed during application process.
PPI cover had not been fully explained to me during mortgage application and I did not realise for approx 6 years I could use alternative cover .
Due to difficult personal circumstances I did not contact ombudsman until 2015 - further paperwork was sent to me which again I unfortunately did not complete due to similar personal circumstances .
Today I have read about the plevin rule and completed forms and sent to HSBC.
Is it possible this will be successful?
Should I have made another claim explaining reasons why I did not respond within time limit of the initial rejection letter. Would this have been accepted ?
Am frustrated that I did not respond in time , as I do feel the PPI cover was not explained properly and I would have had a case .

  • Had thought as much , I have spoken to ombudsman today , they advised to try .
I then read about plevin which I understand can be used to claim even if claim has been rejected before.

Plevin ONLY applies to rejected complaints.

Whilst MPPI commission is generally lower than the tipping point for Plevin, most of the banks entered into a profitshare arrangement with the insurers. The FCA instructed them to take profitshare into account and its that which is taking most of the bank ones above the tipping point.

Most MPPI complaints are rejected and it doesnt appear you had a strong compaint reason. So, I wouldnt be too worried about it.
